I spent my day scrubbing and cleaning. In between I managed to paint on the dining set since it rained eliminating outside labors. My gal showed up this morning to assist me. I regret no blog my time just got swallowed up.

When was the last time you had fresh squeezed orange juice? While many of you might have the chonicle glass dish type juicer I am using my 1930's Wearever Juicer this morning.

Not every morning do we get fresh squeezed juice, however, this morning is different. I am wanting highlight a serious problem affecting the citrus crop of Florida; Citrus Greening.

Citrus greening, or Huanglongbing disease, HLB, is the most distructive disease for orange and grapefruit trees in the U.S. It is devastating 80% of Florida's crop harming the growers with lesser yields and for the harvesters who are paid by the baskets they pick with so many more smaller fruit.

Prevention and treatment methods have proven elusive, and a definitive cure does not yet exist. Since HLB was detected in Florida in 2005, Florida's citrus production has fallen by 80%. the lowest since World War II.

Even thought the fruit is smaller and doesn't ripe they still produce a great flavorful drink. Don't be fearful the odd fruit help support the growers and harvesters of Florida.

While out rummaging keep a watchful eye out for the large lone salt & pepper shaker. You may generally pick them up at a most reasonable price. These shakers will provide you with a handy any time of day treat from the light breakfast to the midnight bedtime snack.

With a small array of essential spices you may create that unique shake on treat that makes a slice of toast special.

In a measuring cup fill it about half way with sugar. Then add your cinnamon, allspice, ground cloves, and nutmeg to make your own blend in the amounts you select.

Take a small piece of tape to close off the holes to your shaker to avoid making a mess.

Invert your shaker to remove the bottom plug.

With a funnel dump your sugar and spice blend in. You might want to add more sugar. Replace the plug and give it a shake to combine your blend.

Make some toast with plenty of butter, sprinkle on your special blend, and give it a taste. You now have a handy snack or an on the fly breakfast.

A long time ago.......

In a state Far far away....

The Legislature declared the Sunflower a Noxious weed to be irradiated from Iowa's ditches and public lands.

The Sunflower just happens to be the the State flower of Kansas. Kansas retaliated by declaring OPEN SEASON on the Goldfinch ... Iowa's State Bird.

The Governor called out the State Militia to defend the Goldfinch.

After much deliberation and diplomacy the matter was settled.

That was the LONG Way around to the topic of my blog..... The Iowa State Flower... The Prairie Rose We have some in the rougher east end of our lawn.

Here you see the rose with some Buttercups.

My old fashioned French Rose is blooming. The whole front lawn is filled with the sweet scent.

This is what "Roses" were before horticulturalists started messing with them.

Around the time of Louis XV you can see a cluster in the hair of Madam Dubois by Nicolas de Largilliere. The print hangs in the parlor.

I have used my chauffeur picture on several occasions.... Ronnie HATES to have his picture taken! LOL ! We surmise the vehicle is British made.... has that "English" look, however, It lacks the Jaguar Leaper, The Bentley's Grill and the familiar Rolls "Spirit of Ecstasy" hood ornament.

IF any member has a clue to the identity of this sleek Limousine please leave a comment below. Even if you have a hunch to point us in the correct direction... It had British plates on it but we lack going any further on it.

I'd Finished up with my Doctor at the hospital ... My A1c was 5.2 but I am still loosing red blood cells somewhere. I seen the nursery was 50% off remaining stock... I NEVER pass up a bargain. I had my Chauffeur pull in.

I liked a hanging basket of crimson Geraniums. I just set it in the birdbath for the time being.... the hook is occupied yet.

There were some pretty petunias I placed into the pots leading to the brick patio from the driveway.

A yellow climbing rose caught my attention... " Good Day Sunshine" of all the cute names.

I dug down by a vacant trellis in the front of the house. Protected and in good old lake bottom North Iowa Dirt should grow and produce some roses for me.

There was a "cemetery box" with a HUGE colorful Coleus. The red geraniums and petunias looked healthy too so I added it to my cart. I put them in an old cast iron hog troth that came from Grandpa's way back.

Also a poor lone Roma tomato plant that needed sunshine, a big pot, and some TLC with a cage to grow up in. This is my eclectic display.

We all know the consequences of "Little Leaks"

We'd gotten a substantial amount of rain.

Yet NONE in the rain gauge to inform us of the degree of downpour ... ???

I took a look at the old gauge then seen some cracks towards the bottom. It has sentimental value to me... It was my grandfather's. It also needed to be cleaned up after years out on the post.. Cottonwood seeds, bugs, and other rubbish. I took it apart, washed it up, dried it, and used a tube of Super Glue to hopefully seal up the bottom. I have a few more "sealing" options but this is the easiest and fastest.

End of the day... back out on the post, hopefully repaired.

When I was a …
…I worked as a bag boy in a southern supermarket (Publix).

As one of the busiest stores, we were chosen to test making fresh squeezed juice in the store at customers’ request.

As a social person, this sounded like a pretty cool job so I asked my manager if I could get some shifts on the juice machine.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible because baggers can’t be juicers
