I wouldn't say I am a vitamin nut, but Joe and I do take supplements, and some on the advice of our doctors. For instance, Joe takes iron, Vitamin C and B12 for his anemia on the advice of our doctors.

He must be a good doctor, the last one I went to said they don't work, the one I had before was all for me taking supplements.

With a list like that, what would be left to eat? That's not even all 50 foods!! Broccoli? I love broccoli, I guess I am going to die!! Oh wait, I would already be dead according to this. I don't listen to the health food czars, they are always coming up with foods that are going to kill you and then a few years down the road they say they're good for you. Take eggs as an example of that. Then they tell us to not eat butter, use margarine instead, margarine is made with a plastic substance, now it's bad for you, go back to butter. I eat the foods I grew up with which include bacon and eggs, and whole wheat toast with real butter on it. Screw those food czars!!

One day they say one thing and the next, the opposite. First they say it's great to drink a glass of wine a day (I don't really drink any liquor except once every few years) and then I read something how that will kill you. One day vitamins are great and the next deadly. It is hard to know what to do. I take what I take and hope for the best.

Nileyears I think that one should treat their vitamin supplements with moderation just as you treat some foods. I take magnesium and vitamin D on a regular basis and also CQ10. If you take medication for cholesterol you should take CQ10 along with it. Sometimes I take calcium but not on a regular basis. My Dr. told me to take lots of Vitamin D. Sometimes I take Lutein which is good for your eyes. I am very healthy and I eat lots of fresh vegetables and fruit. Each person is different and not everyone should necessarily take whatever everyone is taking.

I do take vitamins and have for quite a few years. We also eat very healthy.

Our doctor is fine with what we take and did say that whatever we do, keep doing it.

We have both lost weight and maintain it. One thing, we don't eat out like we used to, occasionally we do. Never fast food!

Actually, our doctor is a DO, so natural things are part of his training. When Joe had horrible diarrhea problems, he told him to take probiotics and fiber supplements, which he does every day and the problem never developed again.
When Joe developed anemia, he started him on iron, and it was our GI specialist that told him to take Vitamin C with it to help the absorption. It was helping his anemia, slowly, so I did some reading, and asked our doctor about Vitamin B12. He said his tests didn't warrant a prescription, but we could definitely take an OTC supplement, so we do..... and Joe blood count got up almost to normal. I take it too, hoping it will boost my energy, but I think I was just "born" tired!
I tried turmeric for joint pain, but the one I got was mixed with black pepper for absorption, and I soon developed stomach pain so I stopped it. I've not tried it again, without the pepper, so I don't know if it will help me or not.

Isn't that the truth? I remember when eggs were bad for you..... now they have reversed that and eggs are again good for you. All those who try to tell us what we should and should not eat are like the weather........ always changing.

Some things taken by themselves are of not much benefit unless taken with something else. A bit like a symbiotic relationship, one helps the other. For example, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) needs bioflavinoids to help absorb it or it goes straight through. Bioflavinoids are in the pulp of oranges, lemons etc. Magnesium needs calcium as to have a proper effective absorbsion also. There's a few more but I cant remember them and I could google it but I'll leave that to you. If I take vitamin C I'll take it while eating a couple of oranges. I'll take magnesium but I'll eat sardines and maybe drink some milk to get full benefit.

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

I don't take those synthetic vitamins either, mine are whole food supplements, you won't find what I take at your local Walgreens, or WalMart, from what I read about those, they pass right through your body. I don't have high blood pressure, or arthritis, COPD, or any other problems at the moment, but if this stuff helps you cut the mustard, that's got to be some good snake oil, I'll have to check out Moringa Oleifera, thanks Rich.

Elaine, I never listened to them, my sister used to drive me crazy with the list of foods I shouldn't be eating, but I never stopped enjoying the foods I liked. The only thing I did stop doing was eating fast food and junk food. My main concern right now is Big Pharma getting their wish and taking over the supplement industry.

I don't take them.

I am convinced that vigorous exercised cures all ills.

You're right Shar, I couldn't agree more. I don't take vitamin D because I get it while I am outside working, whereas studies have shown that in the Northern Hemisphere, people don't get enough of it. I supplement D3 in the winter months only. CQ10 is good even if you don't take cholesterol meds, our bodies don't produce enough after a certain age.

You and Alfie look good and if you feel good, you are on the right path! I'm with you on the fast food, the last time I got lazy and ate at a Taco Bell, which was 15 years ago, I felt like I ate a brick, sick to my stomach for a couple days, never again!

My best doctors were DO's, some MD's are no more than legal drug pushers. Reading what your DO has Joe taking sounds like my doctor, it's all good! I take Tumeric, maybe that's why my joints don't hurt, but that's not why I take it. You could make a tea out of it and drink that, but it's kind of bitter. I make a chicken broth, with cayenne pepper, black pepper and Tumeric, and drink that down. You can sprinkle it on other foods also, if you don't mind the yellow color.

Lol, well, we are all going to die, but I'll let people die their way and I'll die mine, but like you, I'd like it to be painless, guess I'll have to die in my sleep. Roxy, if some people heard some of my thoughts, they would run!! More people are demanding organic, it's the only way they are sure there are no GMO's in their food. They just passed the "Dark Act", food manufacturers don't have to tell you what's in their products anymore.

Yep, I get those symbiotic relationships, I don't know all of them yet, just with what I am taking now. A lot of people don't realize you need K2 to work with D3, but K2 helps keep your blood thin, so not good if you are on blood thinners. So, it's always good to know what each supplement does before being taken as well as which supplements work together as a team.

Hahaha, I love your attitude!! I don't listen to "THEM" but "THEY" are trying to take away all those wonderful supplements we are taking. How happy will we be if we have to go to a doctor to get a prescription for those supplements? So if you look at the real big picture, your costs will rise, you will have to pay for the doctor's visit, he will decide what kind of vitamins you will take, you get a prescription for them, take it to get it filled and then pay double, or triple of what we pay now, maybe even more because now the "THEY" have the power to do what they want and charge what they want. We can't let that happen.

Exactly ET!! Lady, I couldn't agree with you more!! That's why I mentioned that prescription drugs kill more people than guns, not just that, but you could add automobile deaths to the gun deaths and it's still less than death by prescription drugs. All I can tell you is to keep your eyes open, if you see any kind of a bill that relates to this subject call your state Representatives and tell them to vote against it.

A doctor that doesn't want you to read the fine print on a drug he prescribed is pushing the drug for that pharmaceutical company, they get payed and receive bonuses for that.

Are you sure about that Dan?

I'm with you on that, we really don't get all the nutrients we need in our food anymore, even organic farming doesn't put all those nutrients back into the soil, it helps, but not enough.
