A chart! I thank you from the bottom of my graupel-free nerdy heart.
I have to admit I love the nerd in you and in Smarty.
I'm so glad someone enjoyed this post!
Learn something new everyday
I had no idea!!
Now you know!
Whoa.....never seen or heard of graupel. This is interesting. Especially since after nice days we are under a freeze for Monday morn.
Stay warm! Hopefully your cold snap will be brief.
Climate change and the the effects
Yes, maybe. Since it happens when there's a bit of warmer air in the atmosphere, we might start to see it more often where I live.
@smartasswoman it's risky be careful love ❤️
Now I can show off my knowledge of graupel!
I'm not sure who would be impressed, but I hope you find someone!
Interesting sad for setback. Didn't know aboutgrauple.experienced other 3
Things are back on the upswing already - it's in the 50's today.
I have heard of graupel before but am not sure that I have ever seen it. I figure that after living in Wisconsin for over 70 years, I likely have but did not know what it was. Thank you for so clearly explaining what it is and how it forms.
Hugs.
You're not that far away from my climate so I'm guessing you've seen it too. 😊
@smartasswoman I probably have seen it but just thought of it as a form of sleet.
Freezing rain is the worst. I think we'll be seeing more of it where I live, with climate change.
In Spain it is called hail, what causes it is the same, sometimes it destroys everything where it falls, it dents the bodies of cars, it makes disasters. Greetings
Yup, hail can be very destructive. These little graupel pellets are different, they aren't as icy/dense and stay very small, so they don't hurt anything.
We had some graupel the other day, it's not uncommon here and it's pretty neat to look at. Like those styrofoam pellets almost! I always figured it was due to us being between two large bays.
Yes, a styrofoam like consistency! I'm glad to hear someone else has seen it before.
I see the occasional sleet, but never seen hail or graupel in the area I live. Brrrrr!!
Lucky to miss out on hail, it can be pretty destructive.
Minnesota? Lol
Yes sir, we're still getting frozen precipitation in the second half of April.
@smartasswoman I'm in northern Minnesota sobi understand. Last winter we still had snow on the ground in may lol
