While reading this blog , the thought of the 1970s look came to my mind. Here are what I found during a search.
The middle one, definitely, with those oranges! And the white dress reminds me of my sister's wedding dress (married early 70's). It wasn't crocheted but it was very simple and understated, almost a peasant dress.
Yes, they gave us a bulky weight yarn to learn with. That's usually easier and then as one develops manual dexterity the yarn gets thinner. 😊
I'd be interested to hear about your new goals!
I can remember my first learning-to-crochet project. It was a scarf ... but a mix of single and double crochet. I've gone way beyond that in 50 years. I'm currently working on an afghan. It's being done in strips; I'm at the attaching them to each other stage. Keep with it, I think you'll enjoy it. I work on mine, in the evening, while I'm watching tv.
That afghan is going to be nice looking! Your stitches are very nice and even compared to mine, haha.
I get a lot of knitting done during evening TV watching, too.
I’m slightly disturbed by ‘bearded crochet man’! Thank you for covering up his crochet hook
I agree, he's a bit disturbing. He sure has nice buns though!!
Good luck
Thanks!
@smartasswoman you’re welcome
Youtube teaches me so much!
It’s been invaluable for learning new knitting stitches. I have to go into the settings and make it play at 50% or 25% speed.
@smartasswoman I agree that it could make some exciting fetish gear.
Props to you for seeking out and following through on an interest/passion of yours and allowing your creativity to freely flow!
Thank you!
@smartasswoman Is there an end goal in mind with this creative blossoming of yours... such as a kink party... or more so to expand your horizons and talents?
@Whippoorwill741 more the latter, I think.
I never thought about knitting as NOT having holes. I'm uneducated.
My mother knew both skills and said she preferred crochet because it was only 1 needle, therefore simpler. I have tried and mostly failed at both skills so I can't offer anything. I do have a knitting loom that I use to make scarves. It's boring and mindless and great for watching a movie, LOL.
I love the idea of creating a friend. I have ideas for weighting him and his various happy body parts
Hugs!!
Well, you make a good point actually - knitting CAN have holes or at the very least a lacy effect, like this sweater I knitted a few years ago. Somehow the holey look on the crochet pieces is a little more fun looking I think.
I used to know someone who crocheted her own wedding dress. I saw a photo and it was magnificent.
Oddly, I find knitting more boring than crocheting. My mom used to do both.
I can only imagine what a labor of love an entire wedding dress would be. 😳
I agree that straight stockinette knitting can be pretty boring. That's why I gravitate more to fair isle or cables - something to challenge the brain a bit.
Could be a nice hobby ☺ nice crochet pieces
Thanks nick.

I am sure you would rock in a crocheted top like in the first picture. Holes can be fun and intriguing. Have fun learning and then doing.
Thank you. I do think it's good for my brain to try a slightly different craft!
I went to an event at the library with a mixture of experienced and beginner knitters and crocheters. I want to learn to crochet but not for making anything in particular. Love the top top. I can totally see my daughter wearing something like that (college student body.. gotta love it).
The first top certainly would be more fitting for someone of college age, I can't really picture myself wearing it anywhere in public! LOL.
When I was in NYC last fall there were a ton of street vendors selling granny square stuff! I was surprised it was trending!
Oh damn, that’s typical. I never catch on to any trends until they’re already jumping the shark.
