In her recent blog, "Science Didn't Use To Be Political", Maisie opens with this paragraph......"Science used to be just that-Science. Until the politicians got hold of it. Science studies, experiments and then puts out data. What to do with data has gone beyond being passed to other scientists, but now is use(sic) by the so-called social justice warriors as a weapon to create social change." Whew!!!......It would take a lot of writing to unpack all the ignorance in that paragraph.......let alone the rest of that blog.........I wonder if Maisie has heard of Copernicus........look him up Maisie, maybe you find the connection between Science and Politics in that history..........or how he and those who accepted his findings used that Science as a "weapon" to create social change.....or maybe Maisie and her ilk think our society would be better off if Copernicus just passed his data to other scientists and the Earth remained the center of the Solar System... Are you completely oblivious to the reality of Applied Science?......How Science affects your every moment?......How Science is and always has been one of the most vital and constant aspects of Social Change?.........Your car........how has the automobile been a weapon for Social Change.....or Modern Medicine......fields that are based on Scientific innovation........Or that plane you got in that took you to Rome in a few hours where your ancestors took weeks to cross the Atlantic.......How has air travel affected Social Change? You must know that Social Change is constant......your age tells me that, however reluctant. you have observed a lot of Social Change in your life.....do you see the cause of those changes as weapons?.......... The Republican government of the US is anti-Science........The core mission of the Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, “is to protect human health and the environment.” As part of that mission, the agency works to ensure that “national efforts to reduce environmental risk are based on the best available scientific information.” During the first four months of 2017, President Donald Trump, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, and their allies in Congress have proven themselves hostile to the role of science in achieving the agency’s mission but all too willing to heed the requests of polluters. Who is brandishing the weapon? .
