Today is the 2nd Advent and Nicholas Day. It is a tradition in Germany that the put a pair of (CLEAN) shoes in front of the door on the evening of December 5. In the morning the 6th they find treats and small presents in their shoes. It can happen that mum and dad find a sweet surprise in their shoe, too. LOL

I wish you joyful, festive days this Christmas season!

Two days ago, my great-grandson was baptized at a protestant church in Bonn, Germany.
My granddaughter and her husband followed the family tradition at a time, where everything is taken down that shaped the country and the people. With this act the little boy will be admitted into the Kindergarden of that community in 2022.
It is a small step opposing "the new wave." Example: Officially parents are not called Mother and Father anymore. Now they are Parent 1 and Parent 2. Political correctness!

The ceremony on Saturday was plain and simple with only 5 adults allowed due to the virus, Mama, Papa, and the Godparents.

The news media daily competes present us with the most shocking and sensational news possible fill our short attention span with sound bites and images. As a result, many in our world today no longer appear to be able to cope with the chaotic noise.

Two nights ago, part of the sky above a village in Sweden, all of a sudden turned violet. It is a mysterious phenomenon, people say.

We use the word 'Thank You' every day for the simplest gestures. We say "thank you" in passing and under our breath. But how often do we stop to acknowledge the meaning of 'thank you' ?

Thanksgiving is the time to reflect on the lessons this year has brought us and appreciate the rich harvest that puts the daily food on our table.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING wherever you are!

A couple of days ago I talked my sister, see how she is getting along in this year's new reality. As she has problems walking due pain in her knees and also her spine, she is more or less confined indoors and refreshed her knitting skills and knits socks, shawls and matching hats for all her , grand and great-grand are asking for more and more. We also talked about the time when I visited her last year, having Ice coffee at an Italian ice-cream parlor, asparagus that was harvested at that time, our little shopping trips garden centers where we enjoyed the sumptuous flower beds and pots and bought loads we could hardly fit into the car. LOL

I found a few pictures of my last year's visit. It's all about food. LOL

1) Ice coffee
2) White asparagus with ham and Sauce Bernaise
3) My sister
4) Coffee and cake on the terrace at my sister's
5) Salad and goose, my choice at the Kiepenkerl (a very family restaurant)
6) Berlin style fried calf's liver with onions, boiled apple pieces, mashed potatoes
and butterhead lettuce

Our have no choice, they need love, social contact, ...... laugh and sing...

The first picture shows my great-grandson, now 17 months old, who discovers the world around him. Thankfully, he is loved and hugged by family members - old and young -,
and he sees their faces, hears the sound of their voices, etc.........

I hope, he will not experience the trauma of social distancing and wearing masks in the near future.

The rest shows what our have to go through now.
