I came across these flowers at St. Kilda beach, Melbourne. Judging by the leaves and the bracts, thus could be a cactus plant.

The flower wilts as nightfall nears

This poem is inspired by Maya Angelou's "I know why the caged bird sings".

THE FLOWER WILTS AS NIGHTFALL NEARS

The free bird sings of open skies
where rainbows dance and my dream flies,
where sunsets fill the air with gold
and dark clouds struggle to withhold
the falling rain as my tears flow
'cause these are places I forgo;
the falling rain,
the falling rain,
'cause these are not for someone slow.

The free bird sings of wafting leaves
that ride a chilly, morning breeze
above where bluebells sweetly chime,
but then take note the change of time;
for I was once a lilac sprig
but now I'm heavy with fatigue;
for I was once,
for I was once,
yes, now I'm just a useless twig.

The free bird sings of distant hills,
of pretty birds with funny bills;
of winding creeks that gurgle down
past green trees with flowering crown.
But now I'm in the sunset years
with creaky knees and gouty tears;
But now I'm in,
But now I'm in,
the flower wilts as nightfall nears.

I saw this rainbow in the morning a few days ago. It was not raining but dark clouds were gathering.

I saw this rose in Sassafras, a small town in Mount Dandenong.

On our recent trip to the Sunshine Coast, we stopped at the famed Attic Cafe at Alexandra Headland for breakfast. The breakfast was good and the ambience, cool.

We took a ride to the Sunshine Coast during the weekend and in one of the small coastal towns, I came across these flowers on the road kerb. They are common flowers but still lovely.

We visited a famous tea room in Sassafras, a small town on the Dandenong Ranges, Melbourne. It has a long history and is said to be like those in England. The place was packed, the banana split delicious and I made a startling discovery: the humbug actually exists!

These are the other hydrangeas I found on Mount Dondenong. It looked a little neglected by the roadside but I thought they were pretty.

I came across these plants on Mount Dandenong. They look like the ginger plant but I am not sure.
