I Believe-
that we don't have to change friends
if we understand that friends change.
I Believe-
that no matter how good a friend is,
they're going to hurt you every once in
a while and you must forgive them for that.

that true friendship continues to grow,
even over the longest distance.
Same goes for true love.

that you can do something in an nstant
that will give you heartache for life.

Amazing Grace

Something about opera singer Jessye Nortman’s rendition of “Amazing Grace” really gets to me…(especially when LeeAnne Rymes sings it). Whenever I listen to it, I feel compelled to turn the volume up as loud as can I can as though doing so turns me into a sponge that can absorb every note, nuance, and word.
Echoing the theme of that wonderful hymn are these words by theologian Paul Tillich:
Grace strikes us when we are in great pain and restlessness, it strikes us when we walk through the dark valley of a meaningless and empty life, it strikes us when our disgust for our own being, our indifference, our weakness, our hostility, and our lack of direction and composure have become intolerable to us. It strikes us when, year after year, the longed-for perfection of life does not appear, when the old compulsions reign within us as the have for decades, when despair destroys all joy and courage. Sometimes at that moment a wave of light breaks into our darkness, and it as though a voice were saying: “you are accepted.”
In four short verse, “Amazing Grace” expands my understanding of Tillichs’s words. Listening to the story the words tell about the captain of a slaveship who suddenly understands that his cargo is not a commodity but a sea of humanity reconnects me with those remarkable times when a wave of healing light has broken my darkness. One such moment occurred when, shortly before my mothers’ death, I looked through the sheer curtain veiling a window and saw were sitting peacefully, swinging on our back porch. For most of our life, her tenacity and drive, her intrepidness for me to become an overachiever had cloaked our relations. Now in her twilight years she was full of laughter and love… As I stood staring at this gossamer blonde angel, (physically she was brownish, gray) I suddenly saw beyond all of my mother had never been to me and could at last accept and feel love for who she had become. AMAZING GRACE!!! In a flash grace can open our eyes and l heal our blindness to other and ourselves.
God does not refuse grace to those who do what they can.
The ideal man bears the accidents of life with dignity and grace, making the best of circumstances.
Grace is unity, oneness within ourselves, oneness with God.
In the contemporary idiom, grace is a happening rather than an achievement, a gift rather than a reward. Blessings to all that read this..Johnboy
