Finding the key to happiness

This is about something that recently happened to me and perhaps it has happened to you also. I am sure that you have had deaths in your family. A death in the family is a time when most folk are grieving the loss and sometimes things can get a little tense.

This is part of the notice that was put in the obituary column for a recent member of my family.

Arrangements for......................................Name with held
Visitation Friday from 6-8 PM
Service Saturday at 12:30pm at

Funeral home name and address withheld

Burial will be at ...............with held

**The repast will also be held at funeral home and the family is asking for donations of food items for the repast.

The part that irritated the heck out of me was that the family was asking for people to bring food for them to eat as though the person was a pauper or homeless person which they were not.

When I read that notice I was furious and let everybody know it attitude was how dare they commit such a class less Well after making a few phone calls I found out that it is customary in some circles to do that. It is not the way my family has done that in all the time of my life. We would furnish the food or the church where the repast was held would furnish the food.

When I was able to calm myself down ..I thought.... I had let myself get upset because people had done something that I did not agree with. Which is not the key to happiness.

The key to happiness is letting each situation be what it is instead of what you think it should be.

Some folk included.........bring a lot of pain in their lives because they cannot "Be as one with what is".........That is to allow another person to have a different view of a thing than they have and still be friends with them.

I have found the key to happiness and my life is so much happier. I must add I am a work in progress
For All of the women of SFF.

I was fortunate to hear this poem recently and I loved it and thought all of the women here could relate to it. I hope that you enjoy it.....I did.

Phenomenal Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I hope you will enjoy this picture. It is the only one that I have ever done with a Christmas theme.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. I have been blessed this year and hope that the coming year will be just as bright for me and all of you.

I posted this blog a few years ago and I thought I would repost it today because some life lessons are worth retelling. This is a true story and after it happened I thought, this is a lesson that I needed to learn. The next time I will get a substantial deposit before assuming anything.

There is a saying....When you are ready to learn the teacher will appear.

He walked into my booth wearing a Brooks Brothers Suit,$300.00 Shirt,Manicured Nails, $200.00 Haircut and Shoes so polished that you could see yourself in them. He had a subtle smell of very expensive cologne about himself. You could tell he was in command of his universe (or so he thought).

I welcomed him into my booth and made small talk as he browsed among my latest works of art. As I looked at him an old song by the OJays came to my mind(Money,Money,Money,Moneeeeey.. smile.... Through our conversation I learned that he wanted to buy several large pieces for his home.

Eventually he selected several pieces that totaled $6000.00 and he wanted to have the frame changed on one of the pieces.I told him I would have to check with my framer. He said fine because he had to leave but would be back the following day to pay and pick up the pieces.

I had not had a large sale in a while and I was thinking of what I was going to do with the Money, pay some bills, buy a new dress and might even get a manicure and pedicure. I was thinking of these things as I talked with my framer and they were happy to tell me that they had the exact frame that I wanted. I was as happy as feedlot Cattle in a thousand acres of oats. lol

The next day he never showed up.
