Well, good old New England weather. A hurricane in early July. Who would have thought. They rescheduled the Pops Concert on Thursday. Got it done, unfortunately, minus the 1812. Yesterday was a wash out. Cookouts today and tomorrow. And maybe some golf.

It seems that somethings remain the same, others change. I think that a lot has changed with regard to social media. I am not sure what to say without offending someone. I think it safe to say that the Red Sox had better pick up the pace, otherwise it is going to be a very short season. Can Tom and the Pats do it one more time? Bruins? Celtics? It is all up in the air.

So, one other thing from the past.

On July 4'th, after breakfast, we would read the Declaration of Independence. The Globe publishes it on that day. Back then it was newsprint. Be that as it may, in what ever format it is still a good read. I suggest that you take a look.

So wishing you all a Happy Fourth on this 238'th anniversary of our Independence. Best wishes. Tony

Usually, regarded as the end of the summer season. The are back to school(for anyone that has or grandchildren). The start of the football season (Go Pats). The World Series (No Red Sox this year). In fact, the season doesn't change for another few weeks, but to the keen observer, you can feel that touch of fall in the air. The shadows grow longer in anticipation of meeting the close of the year. Autumn is a beautiful time here on the North Shore. You can take a drive up to Essex or Gloucester. Maybe play some golf. For me, there is this very special place along the coast where the salt marshes with their long brown grass are framed by groves of trees changing color. If I ever get clever with technology, I might even post a picture.

Well, one more day of rest. Time to make preparations for another week of work. Enjoy the day. Oldsalt

How high are the standards?

I really enjoy writing. I think that that is what keeps me coming back to this site. The other reason is to meet women. You know,to exchange a few emails, talk on the phone and arrange to meet up. Seems pretty simple. But it is not. I was recently informed by a woman on another site that the above was not enough. In fact, there had to be more "chatting", more phone calls and that when we did meet (if ever), that we had to go out on a "romantic" date. Going out for coffee or and ice cream just wouldn't do. Now, how is it that you can go out on a "romantic" date when you are meeting the person for the first time. You may have some hopes and dreams of what might be, but certainly no expectations of romance. At least I don't. Be that as it may, everyone has there own standards. I read one profile (no offense to that person)that said that the prospective responder should like cats and not only that had to be liked specifically by this woman's pet cat. Perhaps a little cat nip in the pants cuffs? Go figure. Enjoy the day. Oldsalt

Once in a Blue Moon

August, 2012 has two full moons. One on the 1'st and the second last night. A pretty moon. Couldn't ask for better weather. Well, as you may know, two moons in one month is rare. Thus, the expression once in a blue moon. Well, so much for astronomy. Hope all of the druids and others so inclined enjoyed themselves.

Gee, it is great to be back. So much has changed and so much remains the same. I have to check out the folks on the web site to meet new friends and catch up with the old.

Enjoy the day. Talk to you soon. Oldsalt

Spring in the North of Boston

Well, it is Spring. It is almost a month into spring and the weather is awful. Marathon Monday. I think that they are still going to run the race, but the weather.... No baseball. No golf. I really haven't even been able to get out in the yard to do some work. I have heard it said that spring in New England is "disagreeable". So far, I think that just about sums it up. Disagreeable. Well, just wait a day. Or a week. It will change. We will get a nice day soon enough and then, Wow! The weather will be soooo nice. Now that is optimistic. But you know, it has been a busy winter. Perhaps, today is just the day to kick back, light the fire and enjoy. Tomorrow will take care of itself.

Hello dear readers. I am back. I have been gone too long. I have been pondering my existence. Searching for the Truth.... Well, so much for that.

Halloween. Thanksgiving. Come and gone. The days are growing shorter. All downhill for 20 more days until the Winter Solstice. Christmas is a sparkin'. I love Thanksgiving. I think that it is the true American Holiday. Family. Friends Food. No great expectations. Just that. But, Christmas on the other hand, sets us apart. Rich and poor. Christian. Jew. Muslim. Buddhist. Atheist. We are not all in it together. And for those of us who do celebrate Christmas, there are some clear expectations. And then, there are the office parties with "Yankee" swaps and other get togethers. Too much. I do like to go to a Christmas Eve service at a church near the ocean. Maybe cook a little chili and cornbread for after. Play some Christmas music. Other than that, I am really not into much more. When my were younger, there was a lot more going on. But, even then, I can't say that it was my favorite holiday. For me, New Year is even worse, but I will save that discussion for another time. Thanks for listening.

Summer is gone. History. The Red Sox season, a bad memory. GO PATS. We're in free Fall to winter. The days grow shorter. The weather cooler. Fall is perhaps the best season in New England. Fewer really hot days. Less humid. You can still be outdoors. The foliage is great. Salem is the Halloween capital of the world. People come from all over. Of course, everything changes in November, but that is another story. Enjoy the moment. I'm still trying to organize a group of local SFF members for activities and networking. Just a little something to brighten the dark days of Winter. It's slow going, but I have had some success. Still reorganizing my life to accommodate my new "empty nest" status. My mantra for the next few weeks is "play more golf". Thanks for listening.

I don't have all that much to write. Just wanted to check in with my faithful readers and see what's up. In an effort to think globally and act locally, I started a Local Interest Group to try and stimulate some conversation and networking among SFF members here in the North of Boston. However, I am a little skeptical. We are not the friendliest bunch. Now, maybe I am mistaken. I have only been online a few weeks and perhaps there is the vast network that is hidden to me. I don't know. We will see.

It has been a few weeks that I have been living alone. After, 22 years, it does take some getting use to. One of the things that I notice the most is that I have more time to myself. I know that that is a bit obvious, but I mean time, in the sense that I can slow down and not be so rushed doing everything. I can take my time at the store. I can take my time coming home from work. No rush to fix breakfast or cook supper. But, I still have to remind myself that there is no need to hurry. Time is still difficult to manage. I work a lot of hours, six days a week. I had to cancel out of a trip to meet a new friend last weekend. The weather wasn't going to be that great, or so I told myself. I think that the real reason was that I worked late on Saturday and needed time to do stuff to get ready for this week. Time. Time. Time. There is no time to lose.
