Think Flo from TVland. That is Theresa who did my hair and nails for many years. Her husband passed a few months ago and we attended the funeral.

She called and said she needed to getaway and came up for dinner. I made grilled pineapple ham steaks, mashed potatoes with French onion dip along with her favorite Candied Carrots. Dessert was homemade French Vanilla ice cream

Probably one of the most famous Presidential mascots was Fala; a Scottish Terrier owned by President Roosevelt. Fala was taken many places by the Roosevelts, visits to PM Churchill, even out selling War Bonds.

A Scottish Terrier craze swept the nation. The dogs were painted and attached to everything including Salt Shakers, Wastebaskets, and dishes.

My grandmother had a pair of these salt shakers on her cookstove. It was the patriotic thing to do during the war years besides buying war bonds. Sometime around 1945 -1950 the wood/coal furnace in the basement caught the roof of the house on fire. A neighbor seen it and banged on the door. They called the fire department. All my grandmother walked out of the house with was the salt and pepper shakers tucked in her apron pocket. The men hauled out the furniture while the fire department saved the house. When Grandma passed I took the shakers knowing the historical importance of the pieces. They have been on my stove ever since getting used every day.

*** My Query is; ***

IF Your House, Apartment, or Dwelling were to catch on fire and you had ONE ITEM to Save, What would it be ???

*** Ambulatory Family members aside ***

My crack legal team of Dewey, Cheatham, & Howe warned me that I better place a disclaimer at the beginning of my blog for those who have not eaten yet.

Same as Yesterday...

PROCEED AT YOUR OWN PERIL !

CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER ICE CREAM !

You will need an egg, 1/2 cup sugar, a teaspoon of vanilla, about a liter of Half & Half, two* tablespoons Peanut Butter Powder, and chocolate syrup. Dump the egg, sugar, vanilla. and some half & half into your blender. Pulse a couple time to mix ingredients then pour into the ice cream maker freezing cylinder. Rinse your blender with more half & half then into the freezing chamber.

Start the ice cream maker proceed to add the chocolate syrup in the freezer unit to your desired flavoring is achieved.

Allow the ice cream maker to freeze your mixture.

YOU'VE GOT ICE CREAM !

JD GRABBED HIS before I had a chance to take a decent picture.

I bought some Baby Bella Mushrooms!

I washed and sliced some.

I sauteed them in a mix of virgin olive oil and butter with some Lawrey's Seasoned salt, basil, and oregano. I gave the mix a gentile spritz of white wine to complete the sauce.

I bought a Caesar Salad kit for some fresh greens. The sandwich is slices of that incredible Pineapple Ham on a marble rye. ( forgive me... I had to try some mushrooms before I remembered to take a picture ... opps My Bad ! )

The weather here in North Central Iowa is CRAP !
The current temp is 28 F ,,, -2 C with the wind HOWLING!

What's a guy to do to stay WARM?

I say MAKE CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP !

I chopped my chicken into a rich broth with diced carrots and celery. Opening several boxes I added a variety of pasta shapes. The big kettle made enough so each of the MUTTs had some; Ruby enjoyed a bowl of the soup too.

I think we are loosing Ruby our Great Pyrenees. It is 04:00 She refuses food and no water since mid-afternoon yesterday. We are just petting her trying to keep her comfortable laying under the desk in the office where I set. JD went back to bed since he has to work. I am just watching the weather since we are under a severe winter storm warning for rain, ice, sleet, and snow. It is 26 F... -3 C and very windy.

Seigie passed away in the night. We've had to set up tarps and tent to thaw ground up on the hill to bury him.

I'd purchased a delicious Hy Vee Pineapple Ham. It worked great in a batch of scalloped potatoes a few nights ago.

Digging in the back of the cupboard I retrieved what is probably JD's grandmothers meat slicer. Heaven only know how much meat this has sliced for "Thrashers" over the years. I even dig it out for roast beef and to make pulled pork from a pork shoulder.

I just did some breakfast slices and a few for sandwiches.... Grilled cheese and ham MMMmmmm !

Happy President's Day

This Monday, February 20, marks Presidents Day. The federal holiday falls on the third Monday of February, commemorating America’s 45 commanders in chief (Grover Cleveland served two nonconsecutive terms, so is considered the 22nd and 24th US President.)

Four* Presidents were born in February;

George Washington (February 22, 1732),

William Henry Harrison (February 9, 1773),

Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809),

Ronald Reagan (February 6, 1911).
