Forgotten Theater.........

During World War *Two* there were many theaters of operation. In the first few months it seen the Americans & Commonwealth forces just getting their butts kicked by the Imperial Japanese Forces.

In a small corner of the Pacific Ocean lays Fiji, a small isolated Island chain some 330 islands with about 7,050 square miles. Should the Japanese land forces there they could sever the vital link between the USA, Australia, and New Zealand. The Japanese were already in the Solomons.

General Mac Arthur knew they needed some forces there to protect the islands. The Commonwealth was able to muster 300 -500 men while the USA found 3,000 -6000 men. The entire population of Fiji was only about 200,000. The native residents were overwhelmed.

The Fiji residents helped construct the shore batteries, gun emplacements, trenches, and barracks facilities.

All those soldiers got Paid... Commonwealth 6-8 shillings US $50 or about £1 /9 a month. Fiji still ran on old form in which a pound was divided into twenty shillings or 240 pennies.

The economy exploded.... There wasn't enough coin of the realm to meet the needs of commerce. The Governor General issued £1- £5 notes with 10-5-2-1 shilling notes being smaller

The 1-3-6 penny notes most numerous and a bit smaller than the Pounds and Shillings. Of the multitude of banknotes issued only *one £5 note remains in a museum in Fiji. most were cancelled and destroyed after the war.

I am lucky enough to have a *one shilling note in fairly good condition mounted and framed up on my office wall

I spent the better share of my morning along with a good chunk of the afternoon helping my guy ,Martin. We have a sideline Landscaping and lawn care.... The season is just getting started. Some places needed mowing others didn't.

There were also some carpet issues that needed addressing....A couple phone calls with an estimate will solve that.

I leave you with a little smile I've got to lay down for a little bit and want this posted.

Yes. my Birthday

The main fanfare goes to the little gal who helped me clean the house today. All of 98 lbs soaking wet she jumped on a chair then WALKED across the top of the French Empire Sideboard to hand stuff down to me to be washed then she wiped and dusted everything else so I could hand back the cleaned items. Cobwebs are Gone... Dust Bunnies extinct. We focused on the main level this time, however, when I recoup a bit more I'll have her back.

I made us Oriental Chicken Salad Sandwiches for lunch. She loved them. JD's had them before. Before she'd arrived I'd fried some boneless, skinless chicken thighs and allowed them to cool off and drain. I diced some small green onions, a couple stalks of celery, a small can of sliced water chestnuts. I diced the chicken with kitchen shears before I added the meat to the veggies. A healthy shake of Lawrey's Seasoned Salt, along with a good dump of Oriental "5" Spice then a buncha Mayo. She'd never seen home made potato wedges made before and watched me do them.

I've had several items come along over the past week I need to attend to. No blog or chat tonight unless my Fairygodmother comes along to save my assets.

Right from the get-go I should have turned around and gone back to bed. I had a limb down in the yard from the high winds and storm that passed through over the weekend. I tossed my walker onto the hood of the JD425 hitched the wagon to it along with the small electric chain saw. The electric cord I unreeled as I drove... plug in the chain saw and POOFT the G D Cord connection burned up !

BLOGABLE! Here's how to repair a burned out power cord. On the farm we keep several "male" and "female" power cord ends so we don't have to drive into town to get one. I took my dikes and cut the burned up end OFF !

Place the retaining cap over the end of the cord.

Using a wire stripper cut away the insulation from your cord and your wires.

Connect your wires as follows; Green ground wire to the green screw, white wire to the silver screw, black wire to the brass screw.

Connect the wired plug inside the protective cap securely with the screws provided.... There you have it! A fast electric cord repair.
