In the Cold War, when the captain of a Russian submarine comes too close to Gloucester Island in Massachusetts to get a look at America, the submarine gets stranded. A nine-man team commanded by Lieutenant Rozanov goes onshore in search of a motor boat to release the submarine.

The group arrives at the summer house of the New Yorker writer Walt Whittaker that is spending the weekend with his family in Gloucester. When he realizes that they are Russians, he believes that it is an invasion. Soon the information leaks, leading hysteria and paranoia along with the inhabitants of the small village.

With all the familiar Faces of 1960's Comedy Carl Reiner, Eva Marie Saint, Alan Arkin, Brian Keith, Jonathan Winters, Theodore Bikel, Tessie O'Shea, Ben Blue, John Philip Law, Andrea Dromm, and Paul Ford will keep you smiling.

Tomorrow morning my long time friend Jake will help me start in with the labs, tests, and scans to see if they removed all the cancer from my body. He will help me drive the 2 1/2 hours to Iowa City & Coralville. They will also determine if any chemo will be necessary.

Gawd only knows just how old my cast iron skillet is.

Tonight I made us Salisbury Steaks with mushroom gravy.

You can't put anything but a good old cast iron pan into a hot oven to simmer.

Many of you probably know I play on E bay picking up all sorts of items from clothes, to coins, to antiques for the house, HOWEVER,... I am caught up in a bid war which I am loosing on an important historical item that belongs in a museum... or MY House! I won't say in here but it is silver.....

There are times where I wish I could silence that inner voice... that craving.... that irrepressible desire........

Do you ever find yourself torn apart by want vs need ? or am I just being an idiot?

I'd bought groceries with a "C"note the change tucked into my billfold as I left the cash register. I crossed the parking lot... there in an old rusty van was an elderly gent who'd gone to school with my dad crying. I stepped by saying "hello" I know he didn't recognize me thus I said I was Keith's . I inquired why he was so saddened whereby he said he had no money. I emptied my wallet folded it and stuck it in his hand.... he hugged me and I left.

Western traders, including those from the United States, had long sought a variety of Chinese products (including furniture, silk and tea), but found there were few products that China wanted from the West. American trade with China began as early as 1784, relying on North American exports such as furs, sandalwood, and ginseng, but American interest in Chinese products soon outstripped the Chinese appetite for these American exports.

The Chinese long trusted the quality silver content of the Spanish Milled Dollar, However, by the 1860's with fall of the main silver producing areas of the Spanish Empire coupled with increased demand merchants needed assistance from the government.

Trade dollars were silver coins minted as trade coins by The United States to facilitate trade with China and the Orient. They approximated in weight and fineness to the Spanish dollar, which had set the standard for a de facto common currency for trade in the Far East. You can see 420 grains of 900 Fine Silver.

The first trade dollars were struck in 1873, and the majority of the coins were sent to China. Eventually, bullion producers began converting large amounts of silver into trade dollars, causing the coins to make their way into American commercial channels. This caused frustration among those to whom they were given in payment, as the coins were largely maligned and traded for less than one dollar each. In response to their wide distribution in American commerce, the coins were officially demonetized in 1876, but continued to circulate. Production of business strikes ended in 1878, though the mintage of proof coins officially continued until 1883. The trade dollar was re-monetized when the Coinage Act of 1965 was signed into law.
