A New World

I am seeing people here where I live because of my work. My "job" is on lock down as of this morning. I also help out at a local food pantry among other things. There is going to be a greater need for this kind of help with places closing for 3 and possibly more weeks. A lot of lives will be lost. Many will face crisis like never before. I myself will be helping. I will take care of my own family first, but I will help others as much as possible.
Aside from current events, we must all be aware, that what we are experiencing now is potentially something we will face often in coming years. Biological warfare is real and has been used for centuries. Modern medicine has inadvertently created the "super bug". What we go through now, we will face again.
God Bless

I have often wondered why we send so much to charities that help in far away places, when there are those in our own "neighborhood" who need help. If a person can't give physical help, perhaps they can give a few dollars to the charity to help in that way.
A food bank needs bodies to help, food to give away, money to buy that food from large warehouses, and money to keep the lights on. And the people who benefit are in our immediate area.
In this situation, we must all do our part. If that means staying home, away from other people, then so be it.... but a check can still be sent. People who can't make to their church services, still need to realize their tithes and offerings are needed and send them in, even when they can't take them in person.

The reason the US, and other countries do it, is to support their own industries.

Food aid, for example, is often granted only if it is produced by the donor nation.

Ditto for military assistance.

Actually, I was referring to individuals, not nations. People seem to feel good when they send money to charities or missionaries that work clear across the country or in other countries, when there are folks in their own communities that need help.

I agree with you Mrs Joe. I used to support a child in South America but I canceled it. My Visa had expired and they took a payment from an expired Visa. They wouldn't reimburse me my money back. So I canceled it. I decided I should support local charities instead. We have a lot of people on the street who are homeless. Why do we give millions of dollars to some of these countries. I know we are supposed to provide for the poor and needy but as the saying goes charity begins at home.
