When I went to school in the 50's, I remember school was over at eleven o'clock because of excessively hot weather. We hurried to get home, grabbed our swimsuit and a sandwich and enjoyed the public swimming pool. We did not have AC at home, and we did not panic. We enjoyed the summer season.

What do you remember?

Lots of swimming and playing in the water.......in rivers, lakes and the salt-chuck.......my father took the first month of our Summer vacations from school off every year and we roamed the world and camped and explored........I went swimming in a serene blue lake recently......just floating........

Good one!

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

No problem here. It's a tropical country.

Out playing from early morning till evening came. Most days we played down by the river, catching minnows in a jar, skimming stones , paddling or swimming in the cool clean water. We only went home at meal times.😋

The weather was always sunny and warm too. At least that's how I remember it.☀️☀️ At weekends my sister and I used to cycle into town to visit our granny and do her shopping. Granny always had lots of goodies in the house for us. Some times she brought us to the local cinema as a special treat.

From the end of June till the first of September we were outside most of the time with exception when I had to do housework or dishes. We grew everything we ate so there was a lot of berry hunting and working in the garden. Once vegetables were ready they had to be picked and preserved. I couldn't wait for school to end so I could run around barefoot for the rest of the summer. I have some scars on my feet from the result of always being barefoot.
Seeing your displayed clothesline reminds me of my mother's many clotheslines where the clothes were hung out to dry. My mother always had the whitest clothes in my estimation.

Ahhh... Summertime, and the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high
Oh, your daddy's rich and your ma is good lookin'
So hush, little baby, don't you cry.......

We call August the 'dog days of summer'.... time to just lazy around and enjoy the pleasant weather.

My Mother hung the sheets and clothing outside summer and winter even when she eventually got an electric dryer~~

We didn't have school in the summer and my summer memories are always of my Grandpa's farm. I know we worked a lot, but once that was done, we played outside unless we were called in for lunch, and then it was back outside. We didn't get to swim everyday, but there were still quite a few trips to the lake for swimming and a picnic. Riding horses was another daily activity on the farm. Life was good back then, wish I could start from the beginning again.

IT WAS VERY HOT FOR SEVERAL WEEKS WHERE I COME FROM. WE HAD NO A/C UNTIL THE LATE 1950's AND ONLY IN TWO BEDROOMS. OUR TOWN HAD NO PUBLIC POOL BUT WE BORDERED LAKE MICHIGAN AND OFTEN WENT TO THE BEACH. THIS HEAT WAVE HAS BEEN LONGER THAN USUAL FOR THIS REGION BUT WHAT IS WORRISOME IS THE LACK OF RAIN.
