*~*~* My friend, the tree,,, *~*~* Green Environmental Policies A week ago I talked to the man who takes care of my property in Germany while I am away. He told me that all wooded areas surrounding the village have been removed to make place for wind turbine facilities. The last two spruce trees are growing on my property. It makes me sad, and a song comes to mind: Mein Freund, der Baum....... My friend, the tree I wanted to see you again for a long time, My old childhood friend, There were some things I wanted to tell you, And I knew you would understand. As a little girl I came to you with all 's worries. I felt safe with you. And all sorrow flew away when I wept in your arm, You stroke my hair with your green leaves, my old friend. My friend, the tree, is dead, The tree fell in the early dawn. You fell this morning, I came too late. Never again you will sway in the wind, Felled you must lie roadside, And few people who go by don't respect the remains of life. And rip down your green twigs which bow down to the earth dying. Who will now give me the repose I found in your shadow? I lost my best friend who connected me with my childhood. My friend, the tree, is dead. Soon there will grow a house of glass and stone Where they have chopped him off, Soon grey walls will soar there, where he lies in the sunshine. Maybe a miracle will happen I secretly will wait for. Maybe a garden will blossom in front of the house, And he will be revived. But then he will be weak and small, And even when many years will have gone by, He will never be the same. My friend, the tree..... (This German song can be listened to on YT in English) Happiness is when what you think, what you say, what you do are in harmony - M. Gandhi |

I was told of the destruction of nature when they started this project a year ago. But now it is done. Happiness is when what you think, what you say, what you do are in harmony - M. Gandhi

How very sad this is. Green energy isn't very green if it kills what naturally provides oxygen to our planet.

In the 60s and 70s we often drove to San Francisco, just for fun. We had to pass through Altamont Pass to get there. It was miles and miles of rolling hills and not a tree in sight. The drive to SF changed in the 80s Here's some info from Wikipedia: Altamont Pass wind farm is one of the earliest wind farms in the United States. The first wind turbines were placed on the Altamont in the early 1980s on land owned by a cattle rancher. The wind farm is composed of 4930 relatively small wind turbines of various types, making it at one time the largest wind farm in the world in terms of capacity. Altamont Pass is still one of the largest concentration of wind turbines in the world, with a capacity of 576 megawatts (MW), producing about 125 MW on average and 1.1 terawatt-hours (TWh) yearly. It was built after the 1970s energy crisis in response to favorable tax policies for investors.

That's really sad, how awful to lose so many beautiful trees. Lovely song, myseek, very poignant.

ALL THOSE WINDMILLS SORT OF MAKE YOU WONDER, DON'T THEY? IN GERMANY THERE ARE NUMEROUS HUGE WINDMILL PARKS AND I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER HOW MUCH ELECTRICITY THEY ACTUALLY PRODUCE. IN PROVENCAL THERE IS A SONG ABOUT AN ANCIENT OLIVE TREE THAT IS SOMEWHAT LIKE THE SONG YOU MENTION.

Glad to learn that TWO of the spruce trees are growing on your property. I trust that the caretaker of your property would take care of these two trees left to survive. Stay safe, dear myseek.

What insanity....why not solar panels in the roads and on all the roofs in the city?.

Oh... so sad to hear this! And the lyric of your song reminded me of two tall trees there were in the backyard of our house in my hometown, when I was a tennager. I could see the treetops from the hallway, and I used to sing them a song in Spanish called Dos Arbolitos... I love trees and get sad when they have to cut them...

Sandy, you are right..... Green energy is a new money making project. Blackouts are predestined with all negative consequences. Happiness is when what you think, what you say, what you do are in harmony - M. Gandhi

I remember years ago when they started in Holland with those windmills. I only know of one close by where I live and it is on the top of Grouse mountain. It provides electricity for the mountain. But is isn't obscuring someone's view at least. I hear what you are saying MySeek.
