And we picked up ripe apples on the ground. I remember that the sweetest ones had a worm. LOL Happiness is when what you think, what you say, what you do are in harmony - M. Gandhi

Good one and adorable pictures. We thought nothing of eating an apple off the ground and just dug or cut the worm out! Lordy, today that would be soooo unacceptable

Awwwww, such cute pics! Yep, used to pull carrots right out of the ground and eat them, same with just about any vegetable in the garden, but never onions, lol. My youngest daughter, who will turn 41 this year, still likes to pick up my chickens and hug them.

My younger son rescued a dog that kept following him on a hiking trail. He found out the dog's owner died and the dog got lost in the chaos. He trained it to be his service dog. (Hearing Dog for the Hearing Impaired) Now the dog goes on the road with him. They rescued each other.

Oh! This has brought back memories of my childhood and adolescence. We also went to the field for a walk and we used to cut blackberries and "nances" or other wild fruits and eat them right there. And, as Maudie says, we are still here to tell the tale. Cute pictures!

Aww MySeek these are adorable photos. It reminds me a lot of when I was a child and we played with the animals that we had on the farm where we lived. We seemed to always have puppies around. They were the most fun. When we picked berries we probably put more in our mouths than what went into the bucket. Like Niles said carrots pulled out of the garden there was nothing better than that.

I remember going into the garden with my mom and a salt shaker to pick a nice big tomato each and sit in the grass and enjoy it. On hot days, we even drank from the horse trough if we were not near the house, and if we were, we drank from the outside hose. And shoes were only for going places, certainly not playing out in our yard or pastures. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

YEP. THAT IS HOW WE DID IT AND WHEN THE ASIAN FLU STRUCK IN 1958 THERE WERE NO LOCKDOWNS AND THE RESULTS WERE VERY MUCH THE SAME AS WITH COVID TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE DIFFERENCE IN WORLD POPULATION. IT KIND OF MAKES YOU WONDER, DOESN'T IT?

Ingesting dirt and getting intimate with wilderness didn't prevent the great plagues, or Tuberculosis or Cholera, or the Smallpox or Scarlet Fever, or Polio or Whooping Cough or Aids....etc, etc, etc.

Hi Sparkle! This blog is simple and telling how our immune system was "kept" fit! That was before the Pharmaceutical Industry tapped into new markets to the point that babies get sexfold vaccination and are growing up in a sterile environment. From what I learned from your blogs, you enjoyed nature to the fullest and survived. I don't recall that any of my childhood friends and classmates passed away from Smallpox, Measles/Rubella.......

Once again.......The plural of anecdote is not data......Just because little Myseek doesn't remember any of her classmates dying from Smallpox, Measles or Rubella, doesn't mean those diseases didn't ravage populations.....Do you remember anyone dying or being scarred from Polio, Whooping Cough or Smallpox? ....I almost died from Whooping Cough when I was 3.....got Pneumonia from it, which weakened my lungs....Rubella may cause deformations in babies if pregnant women get even a light case of it...............95% of the First Nations population where I live died of Smallpox, Measles and TB....whole villages....I grew up hearing the horror stories told by those whose forebears survived......They were still dying of TB when I was a teen.......I assure you, it had nothing to do with how close they were to Nature....... People panicked when there was Polio in the community.....huge panic....Everything got shut down, including swimming pools.......You think people didn't panic when there was Scarlet Fever in the community?.....give your head a shake.....

Myseek, that's a good point. A good healthy supply of germs and avoiding antibiotics will definitely strengthen immunity in my estimation. And btw I'm not a doctor, I'm vaccinated and I'll get a booster if advised by professionals in the industry.
