Abolish the Electoral College

Electoral College as a process in electing the President of the United States is an ideology that has proven to be flawed because it is structured to favor the small states. It encourages candidates to seek voters interest in a few states and ignoring the greater country's population. It's not me who says it, but research the data yourself! The solution of trusting the state more than its people is very irresponsible. People do not want to be govern this way - when forced to accept a system imposed on them by an authoritarian state. Under this system, we are not equal as the Socialists like to say. Let us be concerned with promoting democracy rather than the inequalities of a republic state when electing our Presidents.

Read history much? The Founding Fathers did not trust direct democracy, and neither should you. The tyranny of the majority and NOT giving the smaller states an equal voice, was what they guarded against in creating the Electoral College.
Are the people of Delaware or Maine not as important as those in California? Should someone in New York decide what a voter in Iowa needs?

And what is " the research" ? Who? When? What methodology? What " people" ? You haven't made much of case, just parroting Democrat talking points when they lose.

To Maisie, thank you for your comment. Just because "thefounding fathers did not turst direct democracy" doesn't mean we have to continue to support that idea especially when it is not working.

please share with us how it is not working.

prior to 2016 elction no one even thought of changing the process or the constitution .

could it be this blog owner an you see it as flawed only due to Hillary losing.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. ... After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy.

The Electoral College was invented at a time when candidates traveled around and gave speeches in person.

Because mass communication was so limited the founding fathers in their wisdom thought it might be possible for a corrupt self serving liar ... or a group of corrupt self serving liars to hijack the US Presidency and legislate for personal gain.

The Electoral College could also function to block a candidate who is someone not in keeping with United States values etc ..

If the Electoral College was working Trump wouldn't be President

All, Great points! However, do you think our founding fathers when promoting the idea that all men shall be free and created equal that it was extended to women and people of color?

Hiramhankwilliam, you're the textbook example of why the Electoral College was invented. The Electoral College gave Trump the election ... they weren't obligated to.

Trump voters got fooled into thinking that extorting money from Mexico to pay for our crap is consistent with AMERICAN VALUES.

Trump voters got fooled again when they thought they were voting for a racist/bigot and got a grifter.

Good job

I am not worthy of such accolades.

little ole me being the reason the electoral college.

sir , no one got fooled into or by voting for trump.

some how you think you know why trump supporters vote for him rather than the queen of con and a soiled legacy.

the electoral college gave no one nothing.

it was the way the election turned out following the constitution .

if u and other poor losers want to change the system. lobby your reps to add an amendment abolishing the college.

BUT, BEWARE ……….. WHAT WORKS FOR YOU TODAY. MAY NOT NEXT DAY.

women and people of color?! Really! That is all that matters? Weighed voting is the only realistic way to vote for anything of importance.

Yes, do away with EC. The Electoral College system can result in the election of a "minority" president who has received fewer popular votes but more electoral college votes. The Electoral College system has in the past led to the election of three "minority" presidents, namely, National Republican John Quincy Adams in 1824, Republican Rutherford B. Hayes in 1876, and Republican Benjamin Harrison in 1888.

Five US presidents in history have been elected despite losing the popular vote: John Quincy Adams in 1824, Rutherford Hayes in 1876, Benjamin Harrison in 1888, George W. Bush in 2000 and Donald Trump in 2016.

Whether someone agree with electoral college or doesn't... is not the issue....The founding father developed a Constitution, about protections. about balance.. It's about rights, and Checks and Balances..It's about the design of a House of Representatives and a Senate....To balance democracy as to population and the value of State rights. And about a Supreme court.. That MUST be balanced to work..
Believe me, just like anything else in this country...we tend to blame abuses on the system... The system is fine...but we do need to correct the abuses.

"The Founding Fathers did not trust direct democracy, and neither should you"

That's a bunch of crap....the founding father trusted Democracy just fine.. what they didn't trust was History and People.. that would use and abuse our Democracy..
The founding father dealt with history.. They dismissed the idea of a Monarch..they viewed other great societies.. The Romans and the Greeks.. the Romans developed The idea of a senate and representation. The Greek the idea of States, and unification... But the rub was... they failed....Our Founding Fathers. in developing our democracy.. was an attempt at preventing the Roman and Greek failures.

To put in plain English.. the founding fathers didn't Trust YOU. AS they didn't trust the Romans and Greeks that destroyed their own society.

The Electoral College gives smaller states a voice and avoids the scenerio of mob rule.

All, good points and counterpoints...but what about that most Americans believe that the person who receives the most votes should become president? Direct election is seen as more consistent with democratic principles than is the Electoral College system.

Would you really like to live in a country were a few people controlled the rest? |t's alright if you're part of the few. It's like the tail wagging the dog.
Bad enough for the next two years we will have to put up with the likes of an uneducated woman from NYC who hasn't a clue, than to have the whole nation changed for a few countries.
We have enough of that in Oregon where the electorate from 5 counties controls the whole state. They have gerrymandered the rest to be totally impotent,

Every one is entitled to his own opinion. Facts are unalterable.
