NEW YEAR'S EVE 1999/2000.....

I was just telling someone about that night.....Remember those conspiracy theories?.....Some people were terrified.....We had one friend in particular who was terrified and wouldn't stop talking about it.....Our were young and impressionable at the time and we finally confronted her and told her that she wasn't welcome in our home unless she stopped talking about Y2K........She didn't come over again until 2000.......I heard many people bringing it up with panic in their voices.....people were stocking up with supplies.....making plans for going into survival mode.......I avoided it all as much as possible, but I really wanted to dance to my favourite band on New Years Eve........

So that's where I was....on the dance floor in a crowd.....Almost midnight and the band started the countdown........I watched the crowd to see if there was any difference from other years, but I didn't detect anything out of the ordinary, except maybe a slightly longer hesitation at the strike of 12....a breath holding ....and then the band struck up again........I didn't hear anyone mention Y2K in the following days or weeks or months or years.......Probably the ones who were expecting disaster stayed home that night and were too embarrassed to bring it up again.....

The conspiracy theories of today lack the urgency of that one......

I remember that time vividly. At work they were worried that the computers wouldn't be able to switch from 1999 to 2000. There was a lot of panic going on then. There was a lot of transitioning going on in 1999 to the end of the year. What a fun time that was.

I REMEMBER THAT WELL. MY BROTHER WANTED TO SEE ME SO I WENT TO NEW JERSEY. HE ARRANGED THE PLANES SO I WOULD BE BACK IN EUROPE ON DECEMBER 31 JUST IN CASE. NOTHING HAPPENED EXCEPT MY AREA HAD BEEN HIT BY A BAD STORM AND SUFFERED SOME DAMAGE BUT EVERYTHING WAS OK OTHERWISE. EVEN THE COMPUTER WORKED ON JANUARY 1. WHAT WAS ALL THE FUSS ABOUT?

I still have an old beast of a computer from 1998 and used it for years later with minimal issues
