PRINTING WITH BOTANICALS.....

Printing with Botanicals
Donna Harris · 4h ·
this is # 3 and as of now the last of the wool and cashmere poncho's that was mordanted with alum and copper, dye blanket was logwood and cochineal, border trim blanket was eupatorium, black wattle, and oak gall. I steamed this for 2 1/2 hours. the colors on this are just amazing to me. the porterweed has the softest blue green leaves.

Donna Harris has been at this for years and attains amazing results.....She sells only at art shows.....I've been playing around with it a little, but it's one of those things where the tools and set-up are out of my reach, but I will continue to putter around with the concept on a small scale again next Summer.......You lay botanicals on friendly fabrics. roll them up on a dowel, then plastic and tie the bundle up tightly. Then you boil it for hours with a mordant
(metallic salts and/or other chemicals)....Then you unwrap the bundle, remove the plant matter and rinse the fabric, which hopefully will be patterned with beautiful botanical shapes and colours......

Absolutely gorgeous. Imagine walking down the street wearing one of those, I'd say you would be noticed. I love the colours and design. She is definitely a true artist.

Sparkleflit....................wow that technique is awesome and the poncho's are magnificent. I would love to try that out. Do you know if they have online classes for that technique?
