It is interesting what items we collect in our homes.

Well, you have interesting things in your home. I also like that small chair.

Interesting - the second photo could pass as a shaman's comfortable den - the 'burnt' urn/vase with its decorative bones an item of interest. Thanks for the invitation to your den Sparkle :- )

We seem to have a similar way of acquiring "decor".......It has to mean something in order to get in the door......

Shamanism has been a life-long study of mine....It started with my grandmother teaching me the old lore of the Sami, which my parents had forbidden. When we moved to the frontier of the North West coast of B.C.,I was fascinated by the culture of the local Haida and Tsimpshian First Nations.....What those cultures had in common, was that they both were based on the Land.....A dynamic Nature wisdom that surrounds us. I've also studied and admired the Shamanism in many other cultures around the World.....like the Maori where you live.......I believe that these people hold the ancient wisdom of the land that will become the saving grace of the Human Race.

Yes, and then I hold on to it. One of my daughters loves to decorate, and does a beautiful job of it, but on a whim she will get rid of the things and redo it all. It's pretty, but I prefer memories.

You collected very interesting objects and created your individual cozy nest. Thanks for sharing this part of your life with us.......

I have several small wooden chests and jewelery boxes that my father made while working as a machinist on a ship.....I imagine him isolated in the engine room with noise-cancelling headphones on, listening to Dvorac, or Grieg, making beautiful things for his family far away with huge love in his heart......not something that I will replace with an item from Amazon.....

At the top of the first photo is a painting of a white bird against a red orb.....that was painted by one of my students on a piece of worn plywood from the beach. The frame is an antique Tennis racquet press that kept the old wooden racquets from warping in storage. We do a lot of driftwood art here.....I once did a set of signs for a restaurant on driftwood..The round box under it is made by a friend out of local Yellow Cedar.....the one under that was made as packaging for salted Herring roe at a local fish-plant.....for the Japanese market, Japan being very close to us here.......The bottom one is an ancient set of drawers a friend gave me......I have a penchant for wooden containers and baskets....My grandson counted 28 baskets in my house when he was little......

And the stick in the top photo is an Alder sapling that I decorated by cutting and removing areas of bark, which comes off easily in the Spring....taught to me by the Samii in my home-town.
