My son and his family got chickens a couple of weeks ago...just a few.....Half a dozen I think...They've been thinking about it for a while and this Winter they built a coop and a run and set it all up....They came over for a visit this afternoon and talked about the chickens......So here ya go....some chicken cartoons.......The last one is in Norwegian.....one of the chickens looks at the egg and asks the other "what is that?" and she says...."I don't have a clue, it just fell out of my ass."........I think it's hilarious and I think I posted it on here before.....

I hope they enjoy their chickens and the kids will learn a lot about caring for animals. My gramma had chickens for eggs and she bought large amounts of peeps to raise for meat. Even though I don't like chickens, I have good memories of helping her with them. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

We had chickens when we were quite small. My 2 sisters had the job of looking after them, feeding them and putting them into their bed at night, and collecting the eggs which were every evening. One of the hens, an older one, would wait until we put her sitting up on her perch at the end of the day.

Cute memes I love chickens, especially baby chicks, so adorable. My grandparents and parents always had chickens, so you could say I grew up with them.

Seems to me that the farmyard traditions of bringing up children to love and appreciate and look after animals that they know are going to be killed and eaten is a great loss for our culture...... I have a brother-in-law who comes from a long line of Anabaptists who had a very conscious way of bringing up children this way.....When I visited my sister and family on their farm, I was introduced to that tradition.....I find it very beautiful......Similar to the Native Americans who deliberately made emotional/spiritual connections to the animals they killed for food.....a very deep respect......The Anabaptist, Amish etc......have that respect and love for their milk cows, chickens, sheep and horses too....animal husbandry on a small scale as opposed to the modern factory mentality where animals become a faceless commodity.......where cruelty to animals is a given........ I get very passionate on the subject.....

One day my daughter lost her hair-tie in the chicken-run....A covered elastic with a large plastic bead the size of a marble on each end....Both her and her brother saw one of the hens eat it.......that's what they said....So they named her "Hair tie"......Trouble was, the hens mostly looked pretty much identical, so the kids......mine and all the neighbour kids who frequented our house and yard, had a running argument about which hen was "Hair Tie".....And when I commented on it, they started pretend-arguing about it.......LOL....crazy little kids........ We had a rooster too, that flew up on a fence-post every morning and gave a speech.......My husband's name was Bruce and he had a fiery red beard, like the rooster, so I named the rooster "Bruceter".....Of course I did, who could resist.?.....
