Very skittish..which they have to be to survive......These are taken through my dining-room window......I wanted to get a photo of the mother with both of them.....it's so sweet to see both babies nursing at the same time.........

WOW..... I envy you the chance to watch them so close to your house. Is there a certain time a day when the two show up? Beautiful photos, Sparkle!

They usually come through in the morning and evening.....We're on the edge of a ravine with a creek at the bottom......there are hundreds of acres of wilderness around us. For the past 2 years, we are mowing less, which brings the deer.......The cherries are ripe and a raccoon family has taken up residence. We have ceded one tree to them, just because they are constantly entertaining.....such clowns......bandit-clowns....Of course the babies try and climb up to the parents and tumble over each other falling down.....then the parents throw down cherries to distract them.....

I have a family who come visit me too. Momma would come lay in my yard and rest until she had the babies, now she passes through. The deer seem to have a routine route they travel and I am on a schedule of about every 3 - 4 days. I did spray some "critter ridder" on the plants in my back yard that I wanted to save -seems to be working as I haven't seen them hitting their "salad bar" recently. It's not unusual to have a group of from 3 to 5 "resting" in my yard in the early spring. Our island is getting over populated, plus they keep removing forest areas for more housing so consequently the deer are learning to live among us.

I like to communicate with you, to share the beautiful nature around you, the cherished wildlife you enjoy. Is Mama deer mostly watching in the background? In the hills in Germany, I could sometimes see deer in the wheat fields, but they never came close. I have never seen any raccoons and would love their play. I heard that they are not shy, but rather dominant. It must be real fun watching them.
Here, in the States, I entice birds visiting and squirrels. Most come as a pair, the beautiful red cardinal rubs his beak (schnaebelt in German} with his more plain colored female...... another kind of bird enjoys splashing in the bird bath..... the squirrels tolerate the birds as long they don't come near the bowl with sunflower seeds. I don't get tired watching them!

I just found out there was a doe killed by a car on the road near here last night. I didn't see her with the fawns this morning and my grandson also reports her missing.......That would be very sad for the fawns, though I think they could survive without milk now, they are always busy browsing, but without their mother to watch over them, the dangers multiply.......cougar, wolf........

tle.....The worst of it isn't the houses, but too many of the people who move here for the wilderness, also demand the conveniences that encroach on the wilderness...I meet retirees who moved here from the city and many are terrified of walking alone, believing that cougars, wolves and bears are waiting around every shadow to attack them.....they want streetlights everywhere.....

For some reason your comment makes me think about people moving up from California to the "Evergreen" state and then removing every tree on their property. It's amazing how they can name a housing development "Shannon Forest" when there isn't a tree left standing. I guess you can classify me as a tree hugger.

Thanks for giving us something to enjoy, Sparkle. I really enjoyed the blog and the pictures. Made a wonderful change from all the politics and name calling we have on this site now. Me and Ann don't come in much nowadays.

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

Well, you can't have all those unsightly branches falling and getting in the way of lawn-maintenance. We fought the golf-course and lost......One positive thing about the Covid shut-down is having a Summer without tourists.....A couple of years ago a couple stopped me on the road and asked which Bed and Breakfasts have 100% Cotton sheets...I said I didn't know, they told me I should always check....I told them I have never stayed in a Bed and Breakfast on the island......They asked why not......Tourists ask really stupid questions....I tell them where the Visitor Booth is, they tell me they would rather talk to a local, I tell them the people manning the Visitor Booth are locals and they get miffed........I like the quiet........SIZE]

Such beautiful little creatures. Sure hope the dead doe was not their mother. Thanks for sharing the lovely story and pictures.
