This kind of art is not my cup of tea, but I find the whole blog interesting because it gives insight into a slice of your life and a big change of pace from most of the other hate filled blogs that I skip over.
That black and white sketch would be my pick if I had to chose, but the others are definitely unique and conversation pieces, which may be the objective. I could see them hanging in someone's home and others staring at them and discussing what they see in them.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Very nice tribute to your hero. Interesting work for sure, not the kind of art that I enjoy, although I rather like the last one.

I really like the paintings. 'Subterranean' came to mind which took me back to when working on an art project to express the recent passing of my mother. I sensed what I wanted and looked to various expressions on the internet. After many hours/days of searching, I finally found the perfect expression, 'Drums of Thunder (native American music) Mountain Spirits. Jack Shadbolt's paintings reflect the images/impressions perfectly.

Well, thank goodness there is one person on this who is interested in Jack Shadbolt's work.

I grew up during a renaissance of Native Art ....right in the epicenter....pretty much all of my friends were First Nations artists. I loved what they were making.....what their forebears had made.....I was immersed in the culture.....The Nature that I loved and saw all around me was represented in the Art......but I couldn't participate.....They had had enough of the Colonizer's stealing their culture....It was their turn, Red Power and all that....I fully supported them and put together and ran support services for them........But It was a constant challenge to consciously avoid using Native imagery in my own work......

It was a constant sorrow to me.....Cultural Appropriation was something I avoided like the plague.........I eventually relaxed about it and nowadays allow the influence to inform my work, but back when I met Jack Shadbolt, i was very conscientious about avoiding it.

Jack Shadbolt has used Native imagery in some of his work.....and he has done so with great power and beauty without stealing anything.....First Nations artists and critics had no problem with his use, because it was obviously a tribute and not appropriation.....His paintings pose a paradox and solve it imultaneously........
