COLLAGE....

I just finished this collage today......You can't see the nice black frame because it's such an awkward shape to photograph......It's 2 by 4 ft....a pre-framed piece of 1/2 inch plywood built as a display for my good friend Meiling for her pottery pieces, but never used. She passed a year ago.....We did many exchanges, but before she died she brought me back a painting I had done of a mermaid that I exchanged for a gorgeous Raku vase which still proudly stands on my windowsill after 20 years.....She told me she always felt her contributions were never enough.......What I wouldn't give for just one more hour with her......

So I decided to make this awkward framed plywood into something in memory of her........my beloved friend. The coil of life....I painted the coil and the background is all National Geographic photos.

The first thing that grabbed my attention is the coil itself. The coil of life. It's not a perfect textbook mechanical coil. It rambles, unpredictably, just like the coil that runs through all our lives!

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Yes she was.....Born in Malaysia of Chinese parents, educated at top English boarding schools and colleges......Very unique accent......When she knew she was dying, she got a lawyer and arranged for her beautiful waterfront property to be held in a nature-trust for perpetuity....

Lovely tribute to your very dear friend. She must have been a very special lady indeed.
