Interesting and plausible deduction. I'm not much into touting any particular group's accomplishments, but when they have been ignored because of being of a certain group, I can understand the push for recognition.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

TOMORROW I WILL BE ATTENDING A LECTURE ON FEMALE AUTHORS AND A WEEK FROM TUESDAY A LECTURE ON FEMALE PAINTERS AND PLASTICIENS. IT SURE IS TIME WE TALKED ABOUT WOMENS' CONTRIBUTIONS NOT ONLY TO THE ARTS BUT SOCIETY IN GENERAL;

It comes in fits and starts, doesn't it?.....When I was in middle-school, I got an award for "Art"....the prize was a huge, gorgeous edition of the history of art......there were no women artists represented....What? I was 14 and this is how my teachers chose to reward my talent and hard work.......A couple of years later I found a book in the library called "Women in Art " and I eagerly took it home....only to discover all of the art was images of women painted by men......In the 90's, a friend who taught art in a prestigious private high-school in Toronto was asked to put together a curriculum that emphasized women artists......She couldn't find any books on the subject, so she took a leave of absence and wrote one........

Slowly, but surely.......My own work, which has consistently been woman-oriented, has been censored a lot in the very provincial milieu where I live....I recently came across some of the " feed-back notebooks I always put out in my shows and many people were scandalized.....my work deemed inappropriate for a public space etc...... what was so scandalous? Hints of menstruation, or vague references to it....references to birthing, and, horror of horrors, women with a baby at her breast.....

I met a man who taught "Women's Studies" at a college.....I asked him why a man was teaching it and he said it was because there was no qualified woman......Three steps forward, two steps back .......
