THE EAVES-TROUGH DANCE..... I wish I could post a video here......I'm watching these yellow warblers do a Holly-berry eaves-trough dance that is so sweet and charming and hilarious......I would love to share. The Holly tree towers over the shop.......The first thing I noticed was that there were flocks of little yellow warblers that showed up to eat Holly berries...Then I saw that one or two at a time were bobbing up and down while sitting in the eaves-trough.....just their little yellow heads appearing and disappearing, like babies playing peek-a-boo.....LOL.....Once they had my attention, I watched them more closely and this i what they were doing....Many birds were picking berries and letting them fall on the roof. Some of the birds were sitting on the roof under the tree and were pecking the berries that fell. Many of the berries rolled down the slope and into the eaves-trough, where one or two birds would disappear to eat those berries. Of course, being birds, they were vigilant in keeping watch, so they regularly bob up to check......then they trade places, the birds in the trough fly into the tree and the birds on the roof take a turn in the trough etc........They had a consistent rhythm, singing as they worked......They reminded me of Norwegian folk dancing, or square-dancing........Perhaps those ancient folk-dances were first inspired by birds........all dressed up in their colourful costumes... |

I love it when things in nature like that put on a show...… they don't even realize they have an audience. We have an abundance of killdeer in our yard this fall. They are pretty birds and do a little run, then peck the ground, then run again. One is fun to watch, 20 or more is fascinating. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Laughing - I enjoyed your bird dance description and the line ' They had a consistent rhythm, singing as they worked' strikes a chord I'm well familiar with. Thanks for the fun post :- )
