VANCOUVER PRIDE PARADE

So Saturday was Vancouver's Gay Pride Parade........My friend Joe Average was in it.......He has been living with HIV for more than 40 years. His art and his philanthropy is well known in Van......His cheery, colourful images are be seen many places in the city..... area even has street signs that he designed..

He has done a lot for the Gay community and for a food pantry called "Loving Spoonful"....An image that he designed many years ago represent the Gay community has recently been used by the Canadian Mint for a commemorative 10 dollar coin..His parade float was decorated with flags of the image......He signed of the coins and it was raffled off for $2000.00, which he donated the food pantry.........and posted on that he would sign more coins for a the pantry of the price.........I don't know how many people have taken him up on it, but I know that Justin Trudeau, walked in the parade with his family did......and when others saw, they lined up do the ..........Bravo Joe Average!!!!

Sometimes I really miss the art community in Vancouver......I always had a love-hate relationship with the big city........I loved being part of a vital arts community.....but, alas, I feel over-stimulated.....my senses are on fire there and I feel anxious all the time.....I used to go back and forth a lot....had lots of friends and acquaintances there, but I couldn't sleep, couldn't do my work.......last time I spent any time in Van. was in 2004 when I was working in a movie.....I couldn't sleep.....I kept asking to be moved to a different room in the hotel, but it didn't help......The van picked me up as early as 3am.....usually 5am..........Once I fell asleep in the make-up chair.....just conked right out.........There was no silence, no darkness........there was an overwhelming, constant throbbing.......

Sparkle sorry to correct you but the parade was actually on Sunday. I live a block off of Denman where the parade took place. I never attend it as it isn't my thing. Plus it is over three hours long and to stand that long my back would be killing me. I gather there wasn't as many people there this year. Our prime minister Justin Trudeau attended it for the 4th year in a row. Also the leader of the NDP and Green parties were also there. Today was finally a quiet one. From Friday noon till Sunday night till midnight a section of a main street was closed off because of Pride festivities. Plus Saturday night was the last night of the fireworks. So for two days there were a lot of people in my neighborhood.

I've been to it a number of times over the years.
It's always a lot of fun.

How interesting to hear about your friend, Joe Average!!

^5 to those who participated, or came out to support the parade. Good to see the leaders of three out of four of our national political party there!!

I was up in the beautiful city of Vancouver a couple of weeks ago. It was my first trip over the border in many years. The city is still as clean as ever! Spent all day at Granville Island shopping and eating. My friend had the sausages, that were purchased at the farmer's market, confiscated at the border, other than that it was a perfect way to spend an afternoon.

Hobson, Granville Island is a great place to go to. When I go there I walk down along the seawall and catch a little ferry across. Sorry to hear about your friend's sausages being confiscated at the border. Sounds like they are still pretty strict about what you take across the border when it comes to meat.

And flowers too!. I wanted so badly to ask the custom's agent if the insects knew better than to fly or crawl across the border but somewhere in the back of my mind I knew better than to ask! I had my purse searched as it was, I certainly didn't need a pat down.
