Wow Sparkle you have a lovely garden. Because we didn't have such a hot summer in July I noticed the Hydrangeas are beautiful this year. The blossoms are huge. I just have mainly pots on my balcony. They are mostly flowers but they did well this year.

I love hydrangea.......I used to have one that was rooted under my deck and grew through the spaces between the boards........I haven't had much luck with one here, or Rhodo.......I have a Rhodo I planted 4 years ago and finally bloomed last summer, but this Winter it did this really weird thing......instead of bushing out like a normal Rhodo, it grew tall and spindly and with these two umbrella shaped growths at the top........2 clusters of really long straight, skinny stems with a floret of leaves at the top of each stem.......maybe I gave it too much Rhodo food

Nasturtiums are garden hogs but they are so pretty and colorful.
The pickled buds are much like capers, but better.....I also like the lightly opened buds in salads......

I never have tried eating nasturtiums. I never seem to have good luck in growing them. My mother always used to grow them in the window boxes when I was growing up. They were always so pretty. We used to eat a lot of different plants but never nasturtiums. Mom used to grow something called Borage. The leaves had a rough texture to them and we had it in a green salad as it tasted like cucumber. It would add flavor to a salad.

Yes!!......I always had Borage in my garden.....I loved eating the bright blue flowers......a rare opportunity to eat something blue......I also used the bigger leaves for rolls.....I would chop up leftover meat and rice and cheese for the filling, and roll it up in a leaf, dip in beaten egg and fry them........yum!......One of my favourite things about Borage is that they are prolific volunteers......you only have to plant them once......they come back every year......Next year I will plant Borage.....thanks for reminding me.

My Mother in Law told me about them. She was an avid gardener and salmon fisher... she had the salmon made into Lox......She always had some in her freezer.....She also made her own bagels. Her husband and 5 son's favourite Lunch was bagels with cream-cheese,Lox, raw Walla Walla onions from the garden and pickled Nasurtium buds.........Those bagels were to die for.......
