LEAF ART My DIL knows me well. She sent me some photos of Ieaves that someone had crocheted on or embroidered. I did have some pressed Salal leaves from last Fall that I hadn't used yet.....and I also found these Broom pods......This is what I did ..... |

I'm going to be hunting out some larger leaves to dry.....They have to be strong.......leathery when dried.....not brittle.....It's fun to be old.....I can do things just for fun without having to produce something useful.....

I was wondering how you preserve them. What would shellac do-----change the hue perhaps but add a preserving coating ? A friend showed me how to refinish wooden antique sofa arms where finish was worn off.----I heavy coat of (new shellac) it ruins if setting for a long time. Then take a small pencil type brush & apply stain lightly---many light strokes --repeating until color matches old----if the next coat of stain is a little to dark---simply wipe it of before it dries. when colors match exactly---add top coat of shellac & your have a perfect antique. The key is-----shellac is stainable. I saw a guy with a small torch cutting butterflies out of thin brass sheet. The heat of the torch discolored the brass as it dissipated inward. Magnificent hue. He then bent easily to shape & mounted them on differing type rocks. Ladies were standing 5 deep in line waiting for their garden butterfly.

Lamp shades? Chains of crocheted leaves spiraling downward at different angles as they wind around the shad? Or simply chain perpendicular or horizontal. Increase or decrease the amount of crochet to allow proper light to show through. Star design running around the shade? Flowers depicted running around the shade? But would enough light shine through borders to make it feasible? Spider web crochet with only a few leaves scattered around randomly in a shade?

I take silk flowers and outline over the top of antique French furniture & large oil paintings. Flowers over the arch are elegant. Adds color and charisma Also over top of grandfather clock. Borders around rooms at the ceiling for color. My man cave is full of that stuff. plus my trusted computer & tv. LOL
