TRAUMATISING FOR LIFE  The recent news cycle reminded me of a paper I wrote for one of my Psychology courses...I chose to write about the UN Declaration Of The Rights Of The .......The first part was easy, a copy of the declaration itself and the history, the many leaders representing so many different viewpoints coming together for the protection of . It seemed to me, at the time a cause that would bring together disparate cultures. ......The critique was more difficult.....It took me a lot of thinking to reach a conclusion....an opinion on the function and usefulness of such an agreement...It seemed toothless in the sense that really had little recourse to demand their rights.....they were dependent on adults to represent them......to protect them......And that is what became the focus of my paper. We, as adults, have a vital and ethical role as protectors of the rights of , and one of those vital rights is their right to their family.......Taking from their family causes severe, life-long trauma. We have witnessed this in many situations....The Canadian Indian Residential schools is a prime example and became the basis of my paper.......I worked as a advocate most of my life....it's a habit that never goes away. Back in the day, we didn't understand, but today we know. Ignorance cannot be our excuse anymore.......... |

I should have known better than to bring up the UN Charter of the Rights of the Child on this site.........After all, it doesn't actually apply, because the US is the only country that hasn't ratified the charter........ The Evangelical Right in the US protested the Rights of the Child because it would take away their right to beat their children.......and to sentence children to life imprisonment......and to death, until 2005........

So your brilliant logic is that it's OK to torture children because there are criminals ?..........Most of those kids are being brought to the US to escape from the criminals......You think that two wrongs make a right? ....

They are his family, there is a psychological bond.....many of these children are taken away without an explanation, a good-bye ...adding to the trauma that they have already lived.......

The parents are desperate, are fleeing persecution.....they are trying to protect their children.....

It's obvious that Trump is prosecuting immigrants and separating the children from their parents so Congress will give him the money to build his wall. I remember like it happened yesterday when I was about 7 yrs old and I crossed a huge bridge and went to the U.S. to stay with my cousin. My cousin's little brother had just died recently and I was going to be sleeping in his room where he died. I was a very insecure little girl and in the middle of the night I became so terrified that I would die too. Finally my aunt called my parents to come and get me. So I can just imagine how those poor children feel being in another country and being separated from their parents. But on the other hand, what is the government to do with thousands of illegal immigrants? If they just let them leave the country they will just cross over again. They can't keep the whole family in jail together, can they? What a mess. Maybe they do need a wall.

I didn't "immediately" toss out an insult, I responded to one of your comments, but instead of answering my question or addressing the subject of the blog, which is the emotional health of the children, you double down on your heartless response.....What happened to your Family Values that you have benn constantly hammering on for years?...Or do those values only apply to legal US citizens?

My dear man, your comment is but a weak attempt to deny the truth of the situation by suggesting that I have formed this response in isolation. Whether you acknowledge it or not, the truth is that the atrocities visited upon children at the US Southern border is flooding the news and communications all over the World and the outrage and anger are universal.....

Housing unaccompanied children is not the same as separating young children from their parents.......how do you not get that?

I would think your Health Insurance would pay to have your head examined.........I can read a line or 2 without a problem, it's those long comments I have a hard time with and there are many on this site who agree with me......but hey. go ahead and insult me for it.......that is sure to make me want to read your comments.

Many of you fools are being played like a drum by the liberal media. If you don't want kids being detained tell their parents to follow the law. If you don't support the law maybe you need to be jailed too.
