I agree. I will post a blog about a personal friend that gave his life for our country.
My family, and most folks in our area, also used this day to remember all our lost ones. When I was a kid, our little cemetery was fill with folks walking around, quietly talking about those buried there. Military graves had flags, placed there by the local American Legion chapter.
Yesterday, when I was there, we were the only ones there, but many graves were decorated with flowers. People now use artificial flowers instead of the live ones from my youth, but it was a good feeling to see that people still follow old traditions.

Patti, you can search online for the Vietnam Wall names and find not only where the name is on the Wall, but also write ups and tributes to them.

9388 American burials at Omaha Beach in France.
All markers facing west.
A guy was talking about it on the radio.
He said it was about the day 18 year olds stormed the beaches.
I had not thought about how young most of those guys were until today.

I had an older cousin lost in England when the bomber blew up on take off. They recovered his wrist watch 200 yards away. He was just out of high school--- had planned to be a carpenter---My aunt & uncle kept a box he had built containing his carpenter tools, the wrist watch and the un cashed check for his death in his room until they died.
His brother came back with a severe limp caused when the jeep he was driving hit a land mine.

Another cousin went to korea straight from basic training----one letter after his arrival and was never heard from again. No one knows what happened to him.

Another more distant relative went down in one of the battle ships in pearl harbor.

I and everyone around me deeply appreciate the freedom that our servicemen have provided for us.
