We call the ones we sell "dream catchers", but technically I think they are called mandalas. Most people buy them as decorations, but I did have one woman buy one that had the picture and then under it a webbed dream catcher and she said she was going to hang it in her grandsons window to help get rid of his nightmares.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I made them for my children and grand-children and other children......using Cedar bough for the circle, my hand-spun yarn for the web and beautiful feathers I found....Flicker, Owl, Eagle.......I also discovered that a large Eagle flight-feather could become a mobile. I put a large bead on the end of the quill, find the exact balance-point along the quill and tie a thread on it. I then suspended the feather over the crib. The feather will then move and dance in the slightest breeze........

Block
Great blog. I'm thinking one of those dream catchers might help with my fishing.
I might actually catch a big one rather than just dreaming about it.
Bring one of those dream catchers down here & we will go to the lake & test it out.

I will get a 24 pack of DrPepper and we can party like you have never partied before. LOL
Until then.
Party On!

I guess ole boogie woogie spent so much time in the military that she sees life as a list of Federal Rules.........Thing is, where I live, on the wild west coast of Canada, there are a lot of eagles.......I have seen hundreds at a time when there's fish to be had.........and like bigblock says, they moult. I know where the eagle-trees are, usually a tall Fir snag right above the beach. They keep to the same trees.....generation after generation.....they stand on guard, like sentries,.. staring out to sea, occasionally calling out to her buddy in the next tree. I love those eagles with my whole being and I am very grateful to find a feather they have discarded...weather it's a majestic flight feather or a bit of down....I treasure it.

The eagle-down is a symbol of peace in the culture of my Native neighbours and friends here on the coast. Many times I have hiked up rivers when the salmon are spawning. The trees lean right over the river in some places and the eagles who land on the banks to feed on the dying salmon beat their wings against the branches when they take off and leave a lot of down behind. I collect the down and give it to Native friends for their peace rituals.......and they always return the gift another day in the form of pickled Chum, prawns etc. ......The gifting is circular.......Birds are my friends and I honor them.
