So every other industrialized nation can run universal coverage for far less per capita than the US, but the US can't do at least as well? What ever happened to Yankee ingenuity?

Are you claiming that the US has more open heart surgeries per ca pita than other countries?........

Dumb Ass, listen to Hank! Sure makes me glad that we have a great private insurance to pick up the gap after Medicare. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Then what does the number of open heart surgeries in the US have to do with not being able to have universal insurance like all the other developed countries?

Maybe Bigblock is more courageous and open minded than you.

It's a complex issue for sure, but the more people in the country, the more people there are to pay taxes.......unless the US has more people with heart-disease per-ca pita...... There are many factors......like the prices charged by pharmaceutical corporations for medications and supplies. Simple things like intravenous saline.....which is basically water and salt in a plastic bag, costs 10 times as much in the US.......Big Pharma in the US has too much power......and then there are the for/profit hospitals........US hospitals have been converted to for-profit corporation-owned for decades, making hospital-stays, surgeries, diagnostic tests etc have a profit-motive........and so on and so forth.......

I thought it was a given.......
