Ha ha Bigblock well that is nothing new. We get very small increments in our OAS. On our CPP we usually get bigger increases. But then we paid into that plan whereas OAS is a government pension that they provide for us. You must keep on top of what happens across the border Bigblock.

Learning a new language as an adult, especially English or French will be difficult for pretty well everyone arriving here . I think that after a certain point it happens. Of course classes are set up to help them. I remember growing up in a community which was made up of pretty well all Ukrainian and Italian immigrants. Many of the older folks spoke very little English but their children were bilingual. I'm sure that will be the same with the immigrants of today.

I had English rammed down my throat. The Syrians will get the same treatment, in spades.

I think that Canadians have a different philosophy of immigration than Americans do. The US sees itself more as a melting pot and Canada sees itself more as a tapestry of cultures...

It's virtually impossible to compare Canada and the USA ... we differ in almost everything but language. I'm so glad I was born on this side of the border!

Rentier your income must be over the threshold that he government stipulates. They cut back on that a number of years ago. I guess OAS is meant to supplement low income earners. But why should I be punished for being rich? It's not fair!

Actually we have far more similarities than differences. When I'm in the US I fit right in. There are, of course, outstanding differences such why you can't get an electiric kettle in a US Wallyworld.
