My Rising Sign.
You do not see the nature within
This hidden life, this complex density
What I allow is a wave and the cheeky grin
But not the emotive swell, sensual immodesty
If you ever enter my hidden cave
This store of dark adventure, this devil’s hole
You might never leave or never save
That part of you which hides your soul
Search my face over, the lines, crags and nooks
Look for the truth in my eyes, relentlessly
Though you might read others like open books
You will never discover the truth of me
I have an appearance of fun’s creative flair
This radiating bon homie, love and good will
But the secret inward of me is what I’ll not share
The sensitive, the cruel, the poison’s bitter pill
We all wear the shield and armour with pride
The weakness within, this complex situation
This two-sided affair, the Jekyll and Hyde
Sweet and sour, hell’s fire, heaven’s salvation
Precious face, this masking of soft center’s core
This inner connection of hidden psychology
Take a good look, not once but lots more
You will never get to the secret value of me

You recently mentioned Scorpio was your rising sign (?). I very much enjoyed the openness; thank you

Indeed, I am a Scorpio Rising, with a Sagittarius Sun; which equals Sag=Horse, while Scorpio Rising=Dark...And so you have my nature, that of a 'Dark Horse'..lol.
We all have a Rising Sign, that 'Mask' we hide under. Psychologically; it represents an instinctive shield which shields us from others identifying our weaknesses, a basic instinct for self-survival.

Thank you, Sir, for your comment and I will state that at my age (And I note we are of the same years.)... To open up on the self is quite easy in that what is done is done and that, should people and family still acknowledge you then you are not so bad! Only God knows what we are inside and, personally, I would hate to know the workings of another and only want to see the good.

Very interesting poem indeed. Ron, thanks for sharing it with us. Gosh I wonder have we all got a little bit of Jekyll and Hyde in us ?

Indeed, Maudie... We all have thoughts and emotions which are hidden and kept under control. Only a poet can explore the good and bad in a gentle light and excuse the self for having such feelings...lol.

Yes, I think that we have a 'rising sun' as you write, behind which we conceal much of ourselves.
Are some more transparent than others and reveal every segment of their life and thoughts?
Can some have such a dense 'rising sun' that it seems they never or very rarely show their true selves?

Good morning to you, Rocket... Yes, it is called the Rising Sign. It is that sign of the Zodiac which 'Rises' in the Eastern Sky at the time of birth and represent the way in which a person projects themselves out into the public arena; how they are seen as far as first impressions go. No-one knows what lies beneath, one's psychology. Its a fact that those who are born with their Sun in the Rising Sign 'Are what they are' and no pretensions. But most have this shield which hides their true thoughts and feelings.
