So many times I have heard that expression. Mostly used towards someone who was driving a vehicle that was falling apart. Well, today someone posted a picture of a horse and buggy at one of my social sites and I had to laugh. I also commented how much hay and feed was costing me for the horses and let this person know that gas was still cheaper. I didn't include the cost of vet care, but so far, it's cheaper than auto repairs, and like those, I do a lot of that myself. Then I started thinking about these worthless EV's. They can't seem to go more than 150 miles on a charge, there aren't enough charging stations, they can't get a full charge in an hour and then there have been videos on the batteries exploding. Not sure I want something like that, so I started thinking about an even cheaper mode of transportation. Did I forget to mention the cost of an EV? Yeah, then there's that added to the list! So now I'm thinking of getting rid of my two horses and buying a couple miniature horses and getting a cart. They don't eat much and they are so cute! Not that I'd be going on a long road trip with that, but it might just be fun to have around and who knows what the future is going to be like. What do you plan on doing for transportation in the future? I read that the plan is to get rid of all gas vehicles by 2030. If that is the case, most of us will be walking, riding a bike, riding a horse, or maybe even driving a buggy because those EV's are just to expensive for some of us.

They're not planning to get rid of all gas vehicles; the goal is to stop making them. There will still be many millions of gas vehicles for decades to come.

One thing I know, Nile, I will never put one foot in those e-cars. I'll keep my small gasoline vehicle as long as I can. I don't see any alternative to do my shopping over here or have some kind of social life. After all, I believe that all the hype that comes with that crazy woke idea will fall apart not too far from now. Many people have "not lost their marbles" yet. What do you think about a mule and a cart? Happiness is when what you think, what you say, what you do are in harmony - M. Gandhi

I'm sure when the automobile was first rolled out and on the road, many also said they would never put a foot in one. You're right Nileyears about the high cost of owning horses. Between all the costs you mentioned, there's also fencing, etc. etc..... and finding good help to look after them if you want to go away for a weekend or more. Because of our ages, we probably won't need to fear gasoline powered vehicles disappearing. My daughter has a hybrid and just loves it, especially since she only gasses it up two or three times a year, and because the battery charges up as it is being driven it cost very little on her electric bill.

I DO SEE US, AMERICA, EVER CEASING THE PRODUCTION OF CARS. NOTE, THIS HAS ALL TAKEN OFF UNDER ICE CREAM AND KAKLE. AFTER TRUMP IS REELECTED. ELECTRIC CARS IS MANY YEAR S AWAY. . i have 2 antique cars, my p/u n my 530i as long as gas is sold., even joe can stop that , i will drive em THE DAYS WILL END ... TIME WILL BE ETERNAL

Well that may sound good.. but when it's comes down to it...... YOU CAN'T EAT GAS!

If you're driving an electric car and BUYING the electricity to drive it from a power company, you have completely missed the boat. If you don't have a solar power charging station at home or have access to one you need to get a Hybrid ....... Hybrid cars run on big batteries that get charged exactly same way cars have been "self-charging" batteries for the last hundred years .... with generators/alternators ... free

Hybrids are a transitional vehicle. Full EVs are getting better all the time. There are several now that recharge using solar panels.

I wonder about EV's in my area. Charging stations are few and far between, and its an hour and a half to the cheap grocery store. The bright side is everything is in walking distance, unless you need the hospital because you broke your leg.

I have not seen how much it coasts to recharge the ev batteries at home or elsewhere. Gas was $3.15 per gallon in Waco, Texas two days ago. How many miles per cost of charge vs how many miles per gallon of gas at $3,15 would help me compare. LOL A generator can be and may soon be mounted on the stationary axle of an EV to help in charging itself. Each vehicle would then have 2. I could build the mounting apparatus, but I do not know the max output of available generators at this time but they can surely be improved now that there is a need. Perhaps 2 or 3 years away. never underestimate technology development. In fact my son and I have talked about that exact thing. He was in engineering at Peterbuilt trucks capable of designing it. We used to do cad cam cae for inventors to aide them in obtaining patents. Ev s may soon be a near equal alternative to gas & diesel powered vehicles. If that happens the competition will lower the cost for both. Party On! LOL

The two generators mounted at both ends of the axle ------geared to the wheel on respective end would charge the EV battery while driving. If the generator output was great enough the gasoline engine in the hybrid would be eliminated.

What good will the solar panels be if there is no sunlight to charge them? We do have cloudy and rainy days, it's not always blue skies and sunshine. They should be made to charge as you are driving. Think about one of those crank radios and the wheels are the crank on the car. If that can be done, wouldn't it make better sense? There is company in Munich that builds solar charged cars. There it can go around 70 km a week simply on the solar charge. Alberta, where I live, gets a lot of sunshine so it would do even better here.
