Just a repeat, just in case. First, I apologize for my last blog being so gloomy. I know we are all sick of politics and need a change of pace, so hoping this helps in taking our minds off of that subject. When my parents divorced, my Dad decided to move back to the state he was born, Wisconsin. He purchased a plot of land close to one of his favorite lakes because he loved fishing so much. When his mom got sick, (my grandmother) he moved her into his one bedroom cottage with him. He made the living room area her room which included a hospital bed and everything else she needed so he could take care of her. She died there when I was 12. When I was 15, he invited me up for a couple of weeks to hang out with him and be his fishing buddy. Of course I said "YES", I love fishing as much as he did. I was put on a plane and he picked me up at the Green Bay airport, then we drove about 75 miles back to his little cottage. Unlike Texas, Wisconsin weather in July is cooler, or it was back then. Not too hot and not too cold, it was perfect for swimming and fishing and celebrating the 4th of July. In the second week of my visit, my Dad had gone out with some of his friends and came home a little drunk. He gave me a kiss goodnight and went into his bedroom. Nothing else for me to do, so I pulled out the sofa bed in the living room and went to sleep. It was around 2AM when I woke up freezing. I sat on the edge of the bed, still not quite awake, and noticed I could see my breath, as if I was outside in the dead of winter. Now wide awake, I jumped up and ran into the kitchen, it was warm in there, until the cold air followed me. I ran into the bathroom, not cold, then it turned cold in there. The other bathroom door went into my Dad's bedroom. I went in, tried to wake him up, but he wouldn't budge! Believe me, I was really trying to wake him up, I was terrified! I sat on the end of his bed until the sun came up. His bedroom never got cold, it was warm like it should be in the month of July. What happened and why? I have no idea. Was it my grandmother coming back to visit? Who knows? I never went back to visit after that experience and the last time I saw the old cabin was at my Dad's funeral. My brother, trying to save me money, tells me I should stay at the cabin instead of paying for a hotel room. My response? Thanks, but no! I thought about that summer and what happened, then I thought about how my Dad had died in that little cottage. No way was I ever spending another night there!

There are some things that just have no logical explanation. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

The paranormal has no meaningful scientific conclusions. Grandma would stay and help me with laundry. After she passed for many years I'd go into the laundry room and the Maytag washer would be full of water ready to go.... mind you in order to start the machine you had to pull the knob OUT to start it not push in which could happen if bumped.... creeped me the "F" OUT for a long time... Doesn't happen out here with ours..

... just leave the divisive politics out... mid-terms should solve many of our problems.

My property taxes went up too. I had to raise the rent on my properties to cover. I showed m,y tenants the tax files; many of whom are on fixed income, that it is not me being greedy.... it's the G D Government. You go to complain and you get the same BS... COST increase for the pencil pushing bastards... "It's only a few dollars>"

Just because they have died they have not left us. I had a ghost in the house I lived in in Indiana. It was a young gal, not a child. I saw her on the steps from the upstairs coming down. When she saw me she disappeared. 3 of my grandchildren lived with me for a few years until they went off to college. They tried to tell me the house was haunted and they had seen something hovering in one of the bedrooms and they tried to tell me the house was haunted. I just laughed and said it was an old house. After they left for college or married I began to believe them when I saw her myself on the stairs! One of the grandsons is coming with his family for a visit next month. I will ask him what he remembers about the incident. I went to the local courthouse in that town and looked backwards to the original occupants. It went even further and Indians originally lived on that area. Hmmm, maybe one of them?

Your terror on being woken from sleep shivering from the inexplicable drop in temperature in the early am hours during a warm July; the eerie sensation then closely following behind on entering the warm bathroom, to then suddenly disappear on entering the safety/sanctity of your father's bedroom would have been a baffling, as well as hair-raising experience. Years ago, after my former husband's first marriage broke down, he returned to his Scottish homeland to then travel on to British Columbia where he worked for a short time as a lumberjack. While in the process of cutting down a large pine (was wearing ear muffs at the time), his mother's voice suddenly came through with an urgent warning to step aside immediately. Almost instantly on stepping aside, the tree crashed to the ground. Uncannily, his mother, with who he shared a close bond, died when in his late youth. I believed my husband as he wasn't given to fanciful imaginings.

I was close to my grandmother, She lost her only son in WW II in the Italian campaign. I can feel her helping me in the kitchen, esp if I am baking bread... She is like a check of the recipe and knowing just when I need to punch it down, kneed, and reform a loaf. It must have been heart-rending to have lost her only son in combat. I'm not familiar with the WWII Italian Campaign. War seems to bring out many ugly traits of human nature; the current Russian invasion of Ukraine a case in point. : (

Gosh, Niles, that must have been a very frightening experience for you alright. I don't blame you not wanting to ever stay in the cabin again.

What a terrifying experience, Nileyears! It is simply impossible for us humans to understand why such a thing happens!

It must feel very special having your grandmother's guiding presence in the kitchen - so comforting knowing that you never really 'lost' her. I think that so beautiful :- ) It must have been heart-rending to have lost her only son in combat. I'm not familiar with the WWII Italian Campaign.
