Repeat: Well, the primary election here in Texas has come and gone, but I don't see where it did any good, or that anything will change.

The only thing that has changed is my district boundaries. I now get to vote for representatives who aren't even close to where I live, they aren't even in the same county, try two counties away from here.

So I guess it's going to be business as usual for our state legislature, higher taxes, more laws that protect criminals and tossing bills into the trash that Texans want, but are ignored.

I'm done with it all, not ever going to waste my time and gas running to the polls to vote. BTW, last year I was paying $1.23 a gallon for gas, now it's $3.40 a gallon and keeps going up. Heck, just last week I paid $3.18 a gallon. Yep, keep begging Russia for oil when we have plenty right here in our state.

We have much higher gas prices than before in middle Georgia.

Nileyears replies on 3/2/2022 10:48 am:
I keep hearing the word double when talking about gas prices. Someone's math is a bit off, try almost triple the price of a year ago.

Thought you were talking 5 1/4" floppy drives at first.....

But, yeah, Oregon is held in thrall by 3 population centers: Portland, Eugene and Salem. My little burg is isolated a bit in the Cascades and decidedly Conservative. A lot of the state is right-leaning. But those huge socialist centers make most of the calls.

LOL, floppies, something I haven't used in a few decades.

It's the same in Texas, the rural areas keep the state red. What I mean by my little rant is hearing people moan and groan about their representatives and don't do a thing to get them out of office. So SSDD!

We haven't had our primaries yet, but there are a couple of promising challengers for the governor. Joe and I were in town today and gas was 3.89 a gallon. I talked to my daughter in CA later and she said in her town it was 5.69!
I'm glad I don't have to commute to a job anymore.

Your gas price there is our diesel price here, which I use in my old truck and tractor. Good thing neither vehicle uses a lot of fuel.

You aren't the only one who's glad about not having to commute to a job. I'm down to shopping twice a month for groceries. Someday there might not be any groceries to buy.

SUGGESTIION
In the future let the Canadian nag hag write what she approves of and then you sign your name to it. Lolol LMAOF

She is so perfect in putting you down that she thinks YOU said she was perfect. LMAOF.

I am so dumb that I didn't see where anyone other than the nag hag herself said she was perfect. LMAOF
Party On LOL LMAOF

I don't even know why I responded to her comment, I usually ignore them.

Well the nag hag did say you were right about ONLY ONE THING. LOL
That being >>>>she is perfect. LOLOLOL

But where in hell did you say that???
I realize I am not as perfect as the nag hag so I seek clarification. LMAOF

Back to voting.
Check out two things coming up next time.
Both have to deal with property tax.
One will increase exemption on the home from 25K to 40k for elderly or disabled.

So cool off, fire up the truck and get down there to the voting booth next time.LOL

Nileyears replies on 3/3/2022 9:11 am:
LOL Tx, now don't you start! She's a legend in her own mind.

We need more than an exemption, we shouldn't have to pay property tax at all. Abbott ran on that promise and got elected. He said himself that home owners will never own their property as long as they pay property tax. Have people forgotten that?

At 65 our property tax is supposed to freeze, yet my taxes go up every year, not by a lot, but that doesn't look like freezing it to me.

I'm cool, a little POed at the moment and I'll think about whether or not I want to waste my time in November.

Beto versus Abbott
When Beto said-----We are coming for you guns.------It eliminated any chance of his being elected governor in Texas. LOL
I think this must be the gun capital of the U.S.

The appraisal office raised the value of man cave2 about 30%.
I went down there shouting about it twice. Then I did the protest thing.

During the protest I was at odds with that idiot appraiser & he was willing to lower the value.---------- then my economics 101 training kicked in. LOL

I told him NO leave it up where you had it. LOL

With that extremely high valuation ------some fool may come along and pay that much for it. LOL

Two buyers keep asking me to name a price.

But if I sell and place money in a CD inflation will eat it away.

By keeping it-----the sales price of homes will rise along with inflation. So it is a good investment.
I could rent it but a renter would ruin the carpet & other stuff.
So I guess I must live with the problem but it is a nice problem to have LOL

Nileyears replies on 3/3/2022 2:41 pm:
What's making my property value go up is inflation. I paid 2k an acre 27 years ago, after 6 years it went to 6k an acre. Last year land was going for 14k an acre and right now, anywhere from 25k to 40k an acre. More and more people are moving out here and I've been looking for property way out in the middle of nowhere, but the cheapest land is nothing but rocks and tumble weeds, so I stay put.

I love looking at the stars at night, but people leave their security lights on and block the stars. They have no idea what they're missing.

Yes, I know what you are saying, you put anything on your property, up goes the tax and the property value. Had a friend put up a greenhouse that cost him $150.00 dollars, a lot of the structure was made of salvaged parts and didn't cost him a dime, but the appraisers were quick to put a high dollar ticket on it and up went his taxes.

Nileyears replies on 3/3/2022 2:47 pm:
No, Beto won't win, Texas just got constitutional carry passed and besides that, you have to do the math on the number of votes. Though Beto got 91% of the Democrat vote, if you actually count the votes after adding the rest of the candidates running, which Beto would get in the general election, it still doesn't add up to what Abbott got.

Niles if you sell for a great profit and come into capital gains------you may look into filing form 1031 --------- sell through an intermediary-------not taking control of the money------you have 180 days to reinvest------BUT YOU MUST IDENTIFY THE NEXT PROPERTY YOU BUY WITHIN 45 days of sale. Many of the closing companies are licensed intermediaries and can pass the money without you taking possession.
You may already know about it.
LMAO LOL
Party On!
