US academic achievements lag behind. Singapore is number one in these three categories. US is 24th in science, 39th in mathematics and 24th in reading. We have high school students graduating with a sixth grade reading level.

Well, I am offended by boxes in my cupboard. One says "saltine crackers" and the other says "Ritz crackers" and cracker is a racial slur! Should I throw them out and demand the company change the name?
Of course not.... and neither should statues and boulders be removed. They are a part of history, tainted history, but if it gets erased, it will be forgotten and most likely eventually repeated. Very sad.
The craziest part of all is that it is a minority of people who believe these things should be removed, but they scream the loudest and others just go about their own business and are quiet, so the powers that be cave in to those loud voices.

Thanks Hank. I guess I missed your blog from last year... sometimes I disappear for awhile.

No worries, the way the US is going, there won't be anything left anyway. Once they're done destroying our country, they'll turn on each other.

I always admired the Japanese families. Their children are taught daily chores before they are even sent to school. You should read up on it, very interesting.

Yes, offended by a flag because it represents a country with a shady past, but let's not look at the history in other countries who have also killed off millions of people, let's just go after the newest one. If we delete history, we don't learn from it, but we will repeat it.

Good pun, intended, or not!

No Pat, all these things must be erased!! Just kidding!

Yes, we have to learn from our history to not repeat it, but if these kids actually studied history instead of looking for a reason to destroy it, we might get somewhere. You know, it's all about feelings, in the mean time, our country tanks to the bottom of the pile.

You remember the saying" The squeaky wheel gets the grease"? Yes, it works and the louder it squeaks, the more attention it gets.

Human history is not pretty because humans are imperfect creatures but we can and we do progress. I have a friend who is moving next door to me. She asked about the history of the apartment and consequently we will end up saging the place. I also mentioned that the apartments below was a Civil War Era hospital and troops were on the hill where our apartments currently reside. It's impossible to totally erase and wash away history. It is better to learn from it.

It is the Marxists' doctrine to destroy everything that reminds of history. When the minds are blank, they can be better indoctrinated. - Researchers have found that the pressures to dumb down can start in the early years of elementary school.
At German universities professors are advising to offer courses in reading and writing and mathematics. What kind of academics will we have in the future, if any?

Agreed!

So it sounds like you are staying where you are and not moving? Maybe?

I remember when Brazil nuts were called n*gger toes. The solution was simple - call it what it is. A Brazil nut. Personally, it would have been better if Street Artists got together and transformed the rock.

Well, they are doing a good job of destroying American history and you can see how dumb downed our kids have become just by looking at where we are in academic achievements. What the heck do our teachers teach anymore?

Have you ever seen Mark Dice and his interviews on the street? One of them was about the 4th of July and why we celebrate it. Not one student knew what it was about, two interviewed admitted they were teachers and they couldn't even answer simple questions. Yes, kids are being dumb downed!

Teachers can not teach kids who are not willing to learn.
My kids were in high school in Arlington When the Vietnamese families were coming in.
For several years the top honor (highest grade) students were Vietnamese & they could learn fast --motivated---very intelligent-----my wife is a retired teacher & she can tell of how a high percentage of American kids are not interested or capable and the parents can't be consulted about it because many of them are dumber than a rock or spaced out in la la land on drugs.
Small wonder that many kids have no chance in life when the parents don't have a clue. Parents now raise kids like pets with zero discipline-----zero encouragement----& the ones who want college loans forgiven should have kept their pants zipped or legs crossed & the kids would not be in debt. If people can't provide & take care of their own kids they should discover what causes them & do something about it .
It's not someone elses responsibility.

I just learned not long ago that those nuts that are hard to crack were renamed. In German language they are called "Paranuesse". Don't know whether that is racist, too.

The kids who are raised right with parental guidance are the high achievers.
Picking out dumbasses on the street to prove a predetermined point one wishes to make & editing out what the questioner does not want the audience to hear proves ZIP ZERO. LOL
If you are fooled by biased surveys you might try thinking behind the surface. LOL

But it is true---many Americans young & old are dumb beyond belief without sense enough to apply logical reasoning.
The ability to REASON IS INHERITED.
Some have it---some do not have a clue. LOL

I think that we can't blame the kids. They are naturally inquisitive and ask questions.- "why, what, how......" ? They reflect the society where they grow up. And how long do the teachers study to be capable to teach the kids, does that also include basics in sociology and psychology? If you ask me, school uniforms would be the dress code.

Another thing.
Part of what my wife did was work with kids in high school by helping them enroll in college courses online.
Those kids who who do that graduate high school having already obtained college credits. They work far ahead -----they are not dumbed down. The schools let them work to the highest level of their ability on college courses if they choose to get off their ass.
AND they must make the grades to work at advanced level.
Party On!

It's a shame an inoffensive rock has come to symbolise racism.  I read that the racially offensive term was widely used in the 1920's to name things thought to resemble the head of a black person, and was commonly used to describe any large, dark rock (no evidence of the term used any other time).  Also, that the Ku Klux Klan was active on the Wisconsin campus at the time.  I think, as a white person, it would be easy to take our privileges for granted and/or regard as an entitlement, and what may be of little consequence to you or I,  is a big deal for those who have been on the receiving end because of skin colour.   We don't know what it's like to walk in their shoes.  Times are changing and maybe we need to reconsider long held views rooted in ignorance and/or complacency.  For black students, the rock's removal is seen as a symbolic step towards a more inclusive campus and healing - I say yes to that . [The boulder was scheduled for removal anyway as it was located 15 feet within an Native American burial site]

Sorry, got that wrong - boulder had been approved for removal earlier this year but needed the Historical Society to sign off as it was located within an Native American burial site.

Very well said Lilium, but at the same time a rock, no matter what the ignorant people called it 100 years ago, is still a rock. Are we all going to let what happened in the past make us victims? I still have cousins living on a reservation in Oklahoma, a tribe that was once dying out is now thriving and doing quite well because they don't live in the past. I can tell you stories on how badly my grandmother was treated and claim to be a victim because of what she went through being a half breed, but that was her story, her life, not mine. Same goes with any race, they can thrive, or remain victims of the past, or move on and create a better future for themselves.

I ran the word "Paranuesse" in the German to English Translator. It translates as Brazil Nut which would not be considered racist by most.

No, it's her story, her life, her history. Am I supposed to hate ignorant people from another era because they made her life a living H E L L in her youth? Those people are dead and gone.

I can't claim victimhood over something that didn't happen to me.

Now do you understand why I shared her story?
