Thank you Star! Lol, if gas prices get any higher I may have to revert back to one horse power. Good thing I still have my English saddles, my Circle Y western saddle gets heavier every time I have to throw it on my horse.

Very nice photo of you, Nile! I don't know much about riding horses...... did you participate in many competitions? Did you have a horse of your own? I guess, horses were you passion!

I always carry a tripod with me for that same reason. I got tired of asking people to take a picture of me, to then realize they cut off my head or took a blurry picture.

Thank you Myseek. Yes, I showed in a lot of competitions before I hit 30 years old. I owned 8 horses at the time that this photo was taken. Actually, one of those horses belonged to my youngest daughter that she showed. I had my own horse that I rode and 6 were lesson horses that I taught my students on. I also rented my horses to the other trainers for their students. They were so gentle that we called them babysitters. I miss teaching kids how to ride.

Never would have thought of a tripod, but then again, I never thought of taking pictures while I was riding. It was my sister's camera, she took all the pics, except of course the pics I took of her. When I was done riding I got her and then my niece on the horse and took pics of them for her photo album. The pics I took were clear, but the horse was standing still at the time. I was cantering the mare, so maybe that's why it's blurry?

Nileyears that is a great photo of you and your horse blurry or not. I love looking at old photos. I'm not sure how Kofla would have managed with a tripod and being on a horse at the same time...LOL!

Thanks Shartaun. She wasn't my horse, she belonged to one of the trainers at the barn. I wished she was at that time, but I didn't have 50 grand for a horse like her. She was fun to ride though, at least I had that pleasure.

Yeah, a tripod wouldn't work unless it was moving to keep up with the horse. Maybe someone should invent something like that, a motorized tripod that follows movement. For all I know, maybe someone already has.

Great to see a shot of you on horseback even if a little blurry Nile. Is that the horse that cleared a jump with impressive inches to clear (I think it you mentioned it was 16.5hh and a warm blood) ? Reading your response to myseek, your eight horses must have kept you busy. Coincidentally, yesterday I chatted with a local retired vetinarian, also an accomplished rider, about the centre where she helps out weekly (riding school for the disabled). She said most of the horses they use belong to locals who rent them out to the centre and are responsible for their delivery & pickup at day's end. I'm going along next week for a look/see. Her sister, a horsewoman also, runs a 3 day week program for people who have suffered trauma incl. kids from juvenile centres and uses horses to help teach them to gain trust and confidence in themselves. Marvellous project yielding results.

Thanks also for taking the time to reply to my question about bracing yourself instinctively when rear ended (previous blog). I'm really glad you've got a chiropractor who can ease your neck pain when needed

Thanks Lilium. No, this was Smiley, that's what we called her because she had a weird name, so we shortened it to that. Tom Thumb was 17 hands tall. Let me explain the hands measurement. There is never a horse that is 16.5 hands because a hand is 4 inches. So what you call 16.5 would actually be 17.1 hands. Smiley wasn't that tall, she was 16.1 hands and that measurement is at a horse's withers which would make her a little over 5' 3". Add the neck and head and they are a lot taller. Smiley was just two inches taller than my horse Drifter. As far as having 8 horses and keeping busy, it really wasn't that bad. Part of the lessons included grooming before and after riding. Total hands on and the little kids would stretch the lessons out just to be next to the horses. It was great!

I love those horse programs, they help so many people, young and old. If I still had lesson horses I would probably lease them out to one of those programs. Drifter isn't trust worthy enough, he's not for a beginner rider.

I hope you have fun on your visit to the center, and please tell us all about it in a blog, oh, and take lots of pictures!!

NICE PHOTO. I HAD A MARE IN BERKELEY, USUALLY SWEET AS SHE COULD BE. BUT ONE DAY SHE GOT CRANKY AND TRIED TO RUB ME INTO A STONE WALL SO I THREW MYSELF OFF. HER REACTION WAS REALLY FUNNY, SHE LOOKED DOWNRIGHT SHOCKED AND NEVER TRIED ANY STUNTS AGAIN.

Mares can get cranky at times. I don't know, you taught her a lesson somehow by jumping off, maybe she thought she hurt you and didn't want to do that again. Horses are sensitive creatures and smarter than people give them credit for. You must have had a real close bond with her. That's cool.

Giddy up there Niley, great photo of you. When we were young, my sister and I used to pretend our bikes were horses lol. Our favourite TV programmes back then were westerns, we were mad into cowboys.

Thanks Maudie!! Pretending and using our imaginations was what our generation did. Did you have lassos and rope each other? LOL, we did!! I love westerns too and the cowboys (the good guys) were so hot!! Ever notice that the bad guys were always creepy looking?

Thanks for clarifying horse ID and explaining hands measurement; 17 hands is quite tall, almost monumental, lol. Smiley at 16.1 at the withers is still a bit taller than myself at 5'2". This morning I was told my granddaughter is going to start riding lessons in late September after deciding to sacrifice gymnastics (just saw out last semester) for horse riding (was told can't quit swimming lessons). I like the practical hands-on approach incorporated into your lessons, so I'll suggest my daughter seek out a riding school with a similar approach. I'll see how I go next week at the disabled riding centre - I didn't think to write about it in a blog. Cheers
