Many years ago a friend had two horses I would often go to his place & we would ride them.
The mare I always rode had a tendency to (drift) over & under e all the tree branches that were about head high. LOL
Also she refused to let another horse get very far ahead of her. When that happened she would bolt forward like out of the Kentucky Derby gates. LOL
That horse kept the rider alert at all times. LOL

One time we decided to RUN them in a shallow creek waterhole in an effort to stomp a bunch of big carp that inhabited it.
We soon realized that horses had difficulty running in water and those carp were fast boogers & they must be able to see in severely stirred up muddy water. We had visions of stomped carp floating to top of the water but it didn't happen. Plus the poor horses were completely exhausted.
We were young then & didn't know better. The horses could have died from it.
Hahaha, that mare was trying to take you out with a tree branch. Sounds like a mare I rode years ago. Not a very enjoyable ride when you have to fight a horse that's made up their mind they want you off. They are smart and once they learn something, they don't forget it!

Kids don't think about how tired their horses are, my oldest daughter almost killed my horse Jackpot by doing the same thing. Not the carp stomping, but not giving him a break. When I found him lathered and shaking, I wanted to ring her neck. Had to call the vet, really close to losing him.

Niles many years ago we lived in the Metroplex & my son befriended a lady somewhat older than him. This lady had some land and rode jumper horses.
Very pretty lady with a scar running from corner of the mouth around side of her cheek. We always assumed it was caused by being thrown from one of her horses.
Not many ride jumpers. Would you happen to know her?
Almost sounds like my friend Noreen, but she gave up the jumping circuit after she got married. I know she was hurt at one of the shows when her horse spooked and took her out in a tree, messed her face up pretty bad. Andrea was my trainer and she moved back to Tennessee, she also had a scar on her face, so I doubt it was her unless she moved back. Both are very pretty ladies. It's been 4 decades since my show days. My oldest daughter loved riding, but she was afraid of jumping, so no longer kept up with that horse crowd. My youngest showed in the Hunter classes, but decided she no longer wanted to show at the age of 12, she just wanted to ride without all the pressures, you know, for fun. So let me know if it was one of their names I mentioned, I haven't been in contact with either for decades.

I know it wasn't me he met, no scars on my face, got a broken nose, horse fell on me, chipped my right ankle bone on a rail, but never an open wound on the face from a fall, or crash into a jump.

Nileyears think I missed posting a comment on last Friday's foto Friday. I saw your sign from East Wetaskiwin and Camrose and I wondered is she from that area. I am from Alberta and probably been through there a few times. My friends live west of Wetaskiwin at Pigeon Lake.
You have an interesting array of photos for the subject "H". Beautiful horses and of course your beautiful granddaughter.

Thanks Shartaun! My highway sign pic was on my way back from a one month road trip I took through Canada. Drove up through Saskatchewan to the NWT and visited Yellowknife, my trip home I went through Alberta. Tried to see as much of Canada as I could while I had the chance. Beautiful country up there!
