You know.... I agree with a lot of what you've written Nineyears.

I recall what my husband who was born in England during the Second World War and emigrated to Canada in the early 60's said, "Canadians (and by extension Americans) never need to win a lottery. You have been born in N. America and should kiss the ground you walk on."

When you look at the rest of the world, there are few countries better than ours!!

    Quoting LeafRelief:
I'm concerned as well. For me it started with the right to privacy and that awful Patriot Act coming from the Bush administration. Conservatives used this act to shut down Go-Go bars in neighborhoods they didn't want them instead of pursuing alternative methods to move in other directions. Dick Cheney stated on Meet the Press that it was his goal to expand executive authority and this led to Bush using over 700 signing statements essentially declaring he, and he alone, would decide what the law actually meant. After that you had Karl Rove unlawfully using government agencies as conduits for political outreach and then McConnell followed with obstruction, completely shutting down the congress, refusing to fill important jobs across the government, republican failure to act on the voting rights act, refusal to fill supreme court vacancies and abuse of filibusters to thwart the will of the people. It doesn't stop there, companies have resorted to invasion of privacy too, firing people for something they post on FB or with Twitter, even demanding passwords to FB accounts as part of the job application process. We've seen out of control sexual harassment at Fox News, police departments that deliberately lie and prosecutors more interested in a win than justice. We even have sick legislatures invading bathrooms.

It's outrageous really...and all of these abuses are coming from power grabs and peepers within the republican party. It's a national disgrace.
Leaf, when you realize it's not one party, but both parties that are in cahoots with each other, you will see the bigger picture. I could take sides and blame one or the other party, but the truth is, all you have to do is sit back and watch how they work, and when the day is done, they pat each other on the back. Right now, I am ticked off at the Republicans, last month, it was the Democrats, and then I wonder why in the world do I waste my time paying attention to either of the parties in the first place!!

I agree with Rocketship............ but there are those who come into our country and want to make it like the country they left! And there are those in positions of power who want more and more power over everyone else...... that is part of the reason we need term limits written into our laws.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Thanks Rocket, and yes, I love my country, it's still a great country, but when you take a deeper look, I don't know about Canada, but the US is starting to sink into some pretty murky waters. I won't go into any detail on that right now, but when I get a chance I'll put it together in another blog.

Pat I agree with Rocket also, we are lucky to have been born here. I don't understand those who come here and want what they left behind, why did they leave in the first place if they liked it so much?

Those career politicians have to go, most are corrupt and are a bad influence on the newbies. Look at who the wealthiest are and you can figure out who sold out, unless of course they were already wealthy, but still, that doesn't mean they didn't take a few bribes when given the chance, or maybe even bought some votes.

Haha, do we really think they are going to write a term limit law? I doubt it will ever happen since writing the law is one of their jobs.

I feel the more laws we make for the criminal the more freedoms the law abiding citizens give up.

Hi Nile: Interesting blog. When you consider all the foreign aid our countries pay out every year to help other countries , thousands of politicians salaries and expense accounts, government offices and employees in every city, embassies and ambassadors all over the earth, no wonder we are taxed so much. I'm not complaining, but since I became a senior two years ago I'm amazed at how many things are paid for by the government. Free health care, free prescriptions, free home care if I need it, heck they even pay for our funerals. Then in addition to my old age pension and another government pension, the government just keeps depositing all this extra money in my account. Here have another couple of hundred dollars a month, here have another $300. bonus for something else, here let us pay part of your rent for you.

You're right and I agree. With all the laws we have, I bet we break one everyday and don't even know it!

Maybe I should move to Canada, just kidding, but they seem to be more generous to their seniors there than here. Seniors on Social Security haven't had a cost of living increase in years, some are barely getting by. Everyone I know who is retired foots their own bills, and though on Medicare, they still have to pay out of pocket for the doctor and prescriptions. All the retirees I know own their own homes, like me, we worked until we paid off our mortgages. Now if any of us get really sick and it would cost a small fortune for health care, I found out that if on Medicare, they make you either sign your property away, or sign that you are responsible for your hospital/doctor bills because they might not pay for it. My brother just went through that, so I know it's the truth. So after he paid into Medicare for 50 years, they pretty much told him he's on his own.

The majority of my property tax goes to the school district, so it's the tax payer that pays, the state just distributes the money, and yes, parents need to take control and find out what their children are being taught. The sad thing is, some parents just don't care, school is their free daycare.

Yes they are Dan, and though some of us think we have the answers on how to stop the erosion of our country, we can't do it as long as we are divided, which is where we are now, divided by status, race, and political views.

I've never been behind bars, but sometimes we create our own. The poem is beautiful, thank you for sharing it.
