Good luck!
I remember chigger bites..... my gramma and mom said they buried into the skin and they painted them with clear nail polish. It was supposed to suffocate them, but in truth I guess it just kept the air from getting to the tiny wound and that stopped the itching?
I know what you mean about loving the fresh air and open fields. I was mowing this morning and enjoying the shape of the hackberry tree that has been here since before we were, along with the tall evergreen that lightning took out the top, and the fields all around me. I was going to take my camera out and get a picture, but I got sidetracked when I realized I had lost my wedding ring!
I've taken my shower and still very depressed, so no pictures today. Sure hope you get feeling better with all those bites. When I get several mosquito bites, I get sick to my stomach.

Thanks Pat!! My Mom did the same to me, painting clear nail polish on top of the bites, lol, little did they know that the chiggers were no longer there. The nail polish trick never worked for me, so my Mom had me soak in a tub of hot water with salt in it. That worked, my guess is it helped pull out those mouth pieces those buggers left behind.

Sorry to hear you lost your ring, I hope you find it soon. When you get to feeling up to it, I would love to see some pictures.

Had to google 'chiggers'. Members of spider/mite family. My sympathies, here's hoping for relief asap from the terrible itching! Calamine lotion doesn't help soothe the itch albeit briefly? Antihistamines and cold compresses were also recommended. Good luck!

Thanks Lilium for looking this up, I can tell you, calamine doesn't work, maybe on poison ivy, which doesn't even bother me, and both my girls have gotten rashes from that. I was just thinking that my granddaughter is a bug magnet also, but like me, she can get in the poison ivy and never react to it. I'll try the cold compresses and see how they work, and if they don't, as soon as my daughter comes and picks up my grandson after work, I'm hopping into a tub of salt water!

I hate dealt with chiggers all of my life. From Boy Scout camping trips, to my Army days, to fossil hunting and beyond. Chiggers are a part of life in the south. In Florida there are sand fleas, probably the same critter. The more you scratch them more they itch so the more you scratch and the...well, you get the picture.

    Fossil

Me too Fossil, me too!! I hate the little buggers! Yes, I got the picture, as I sit here and try not to scratch the hell out of my legs!! I'll have to look up sand fleas, I have heard of them, and you are probably right, same critters, or maybe same family of critters.

I have been advised that the name "chiggers" is not politically correct. They are now to be identified as "Cheegroes," or you can expect a visit from Loretta Lynch and her incompetent FBI director, James Homey.

    Fossil

That's bad Fossil, really bad!

I'd just cut enough around the area for a fire break, then if the wind was still, light a match and bingo! No grass, no bugs. lol

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

I wonder if chiggers are anything like mosquitoes and are selective about who they like to bite? I seldom get bit by anything while one of my daughters gets eaten alive. I read that the "appeal" may be related to blood type. I am A, she is O.

I am also type A, and they love to get me. Maybe it is just that your daughter (and me) are such sweet people, and you? Well, what can I say?

Really? I am A positive and so is my youngest daughter, my older girl is O positive. From an article I read about why mosquitoes are more attracted to certain people, it stated that O type attracts them, so do beer drinkers, ( I don't drink beer) and perfumes, carbon dioxide and movement. I don't use perfumes, everything is non-scented , so the only thing I can figure out is if I hold my breath and stop moving, maybe they won't find me!!

Good idea!! Actually if I could arrange it, I could have a controlled burn, it would not only burn out the bugs, it would burn out the weeds as well.
