You just need to get the recipe and instructions together and you will make great bread. Ann makes it regularly and it always comes out of the oven looking great. If you need anyone to test that first great loaf, just give me a call. I love good bread.

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

Easy for you to say Alfie, but you don't know about my past disasters with bread!! If I fail today, maybe Ann might have some bread making tips for me. If it turns out good, you will be one of the first to know!!

My easy bread making tip is.......invest in a bread machine, follow directions and you will have homemade bread!

I use the recipe book that came with my first bread machine and also have another bread machine book I bought.

It calls for Bread Machine yeast but regular works just fine.

Thank you, that might be a good investment for me, in fact it is probably the best advice I have ever had on how to make bread!

Hi Nile: I used to make home made bread all the time but it always turned out fine so I can't tell you what the problem may be with yours. Maybe you could get a recipe off the internet and compare it to your recipe. Are you kneading it long enough? Beef stew, chili, hot home made bread with butter, all my favourites.

Hi Bijou, the bread is rising as we speak. Funny how you said it might be my recipe, I called my daughter and got hers, so, keep your fingers crossed.

I love fresh bread. It's funny because unlike my sister and boyfriend who are bread lovers period, I rarely eat any bread. I don't make sandwiches and can be in a room full of bread and not care to have any. However, when there is fresh HOT bread, I eat a ton. It is so delicious.

My boyfriend and I are going for dinner for a late Valentine's Day celebration (we like avoiding the rush) and the place I chose is due to the great bread they have. MMMM I can almost taste it now.

Good luck with your bread making. I'm available if you need a tester.

Some how I missed your response Elaine, oops!! I'm the same way, bread is bread, but homemade out of the oven makes my mouth water!!

I hope you had a wonderful belated Valentine's Day dinner!!

Well just to let everyone know, my bread turned out almost perfect!! I ate four slices, not all at once, lol, and it was so good!! Now I'm going to try making a loaf of French bread, and then maybe some cinnamon rolls!! I have to admit it was a bit touch and go there, the dough didn't want to rise again after I punched it down and put it in the bread pans, (maybe I punched it too hard) so I went on and started cooking them. It worked!!

I used to make bread regularly and it usually came out OK but as I have aged and gotten less and less motivated about cooking I use a bread machine. No need for ting the raising, punching down, rolling, shaping and letting it raise again and we still get the smell and taste.

I might consider a bread machine in the future when I can no longer punch the dough, but I remember my mom baking bread for us and I actually helped her braid loaves of bread when she was having guests over for dinner. I never helped her with the mixing, kneading, or punching though. I want to get a few more punches in before I die! Practice makes perfect!

Hi Nile, my mother was a great bread maker. She used to bake beautiful soda wheaten and currant loaves. I'm sorry to say she didn't pass the gift on to me I think the secret is in the kneading. . I have five sisters and none of us can bake bread like mother used to.

Nileyears replies on 2/25/2015 8:12 am:
Hi Maudie, I think our moms must have learned at a very young age, maybe because unlike us with our modern way of life, they had no choice, but no, my mom didn't pass that talent to me either. I think she passed it to my oldest daughter and skipped me.

I think it's in the kneading too, and don't tell anyone, but I cheated, I used my Kitchenaid to do the kneading for me.

Nile you're making me hungry. Can you make butter tarts? My mother used to make the best butter tarts. I am addicted to anything in the bread or dessert category, and can't have anything in the house that tastes too good.

Ha ha ha Bijou, I'm sorry, didn't mean to make you hungry! I've never tried making butter tarts, but I do make awesome cookies!!
