BARRY AND HONEY SHERMAN

I can't speak of what is known internationally but here in Ontario the big news last week was the bodies of Barry and Honey Sherman were found hung by their pool. Barry Sherman owned Apotex the largest producer of generic drugs in Canada. I never really thought about it before but, I have insurance but still pay a portion. When there is no generic equivalent, my portion is still high. Thanks to Mr. Sherman whose company produces some of my pills, I have saved money. Countless of others have as well.

Now this is where things are different. Unlike some billionaires, the Shermans didn't live as high off the hog as most. They flew coach and Barry drove a beat up old car for many years. What they did most was donate generously their money AND time to causes. They gave tens of millions of dollars to charitable causes and Honey especially devoted her time and energy to causes she believed in. They were really good giving people.

I feel sick that such wonderful and generous people would be taken away from their 4 in such a violent way and hope they find the culprit(s). I watched their funeral and I cried a lot. I can only imagine what their are going through. One thing is sure, they left a great legacy and their generosity will always be remembered through the many they touched. RIP Barry and Honey Sherman.

What a tragedy for that family.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

How sad for the family. This time of year especially.

Hello Shuel,

I also was shocked to hear the news of their deaths. What an awesome and generous couple they were!

I sincere hope that those responsible will be found and prosecuted!

It's horrible and to top it off, it was implied that he killed her then himself. Given how they were found with their hands tied behind their back, that theory makes no sense. Also those close to them said it wasn't possible. There was even a theory about a double suicide. They had a new grandchild weeks ago and their daughter is getting married. That would make no sense at all.

Thanks for responding, Deborah. I too have trouble understanding the cruelty of others.

Yes there is something terribly wrong. Nice to see you as always. ET. You know you are one of my faves. It has been a hard year for me. I have some health issues that have depressed me but I hope things will look brighter in the new year.

I second that, Rocket. It is very sad that such a wonderful couple would have their lives end in such a tragic way.

Hi Elaine and nice to see you again. I have been following this case.I noticed it even hit NY news. The investigators had a crew out and were scooping the sewers for a couple of days. The scooping will then be analyzed. Somebody wanted them gone it seems. They were worth a bundle of money and were 15th richest in Canada. Have a Merry Christmas Elaine and all the best to you in the New Year. Hope you will be able to find answers to your health issues.

Yes, Elaine, it's been on the news daily.. so sad & horrific. The only new developments are 1) that their deaths are now termed as 'suspicious' & 2) the investigations have led police to dig up nearby sewers. Oh and apparently inside & outside cameras were not found; it's as if they had none at all. Incidentally, although they were very charitable, they also donated to the government in power by throwing a charitable dinner in their 12,000 sq. ft home... said home was not gated, nor did they have any bodyguards, which they should have. There was a couple of articles in a political newspaper written by a chap who knew them well and once lived on their street for 14 years. But yes, so very sad...they were very giving to many, including some homeless and others who were less fortunate.

Thanks Shartaun. Merry Christmas to you too. I read that about the sewers. I also read today they were wearing winter coats and boots when found. Seems he often didn't put on his alarm. I have a bad feeling it was a robbery and they entered and were killed.

I am surprised they didn't take their security more seriously. It's a shame. Anyway you look at it, the world lost 2 good people who were giving to those who were less fortunate. Truly a major loss. Thanks French.

Thanks so much for those kind words, ET. They mean a lot to me. I hope the year ahead is a good one for you, and yes, our health is the most important thing. Without that, we have little regardless of our financial situations.
