NEVER A DULL MOMENT Things have been crazy at my house for the past 5 weeks or so. My sister and mom and I went to our annual Ophthalmologist appointment. About 10 days later my mother's eyes were practically shut and we had to lead her around as if she was blind. She had pink eye. At the hospital, they asked the name of the Ophthalmologist and when they were told his name, they said they had several cases from patients there in the previous week. My mother eyes improved bit by bit but my sister got it from my mother. Pink eye is highly contagious. My brother who took my mother for one night caught it too. My sister STILL can't see well and was taken to see another Ophthalmologist every week. She has been off work and depressed. Today makes it 4 weeks she has had it. If it continues, she will need to see a Cornea specialst. Our eyes all passed our annual checkup, by the way. I was planning on writing here and then I caught a cold 1.5 weeks ago. Yesterday while taking a nap I coughed out blood. Not a drop but quite a bit on my bed sheet and pillow. It was scary. I called our Tele Health and they said to go to see a doctor with a lab within 3 - 4 hours and given it was close to 10 pm, that meant the hospital. The conclusion was I have bronchitis and am now on antibotics. Anyhow not a fun update but I did reading and found that sadly it is not rare for doctors to pass on health issues by keeping eye drop bottles opened or coming too close to someone's eye . Honestly, I am now scared for next year's annual appointment at a NEW eye doctor. Have a great weekend. Elaine Shuel |

My, what a crazy time...... if I were you, I would seek the advice of a lawyer. I am not a fan of medical lawsuits, but this is just not a matter of judgement, it is pure negligence and carelessness. Hope your bronchitis clears up soon. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I am not sure if I caught the bronchitis from my sister or mom or a delay from catching it from the same doctor. I am good about washing my hands so that helps in general. Thanks Rubii. 😀 Elaine Shuel

I hope all is back to normal very very soon. Bronchitis is the pits, good luck.

Oh my goodness Shuel!!!! Lots of big, warm hugsss to you ALL~~ Regarding suing that ophthalmologist...... In Canada lawyers cannot take cases for a percentage of the settlement/judgement, so paying a lawyer's fee can be very expensive, the court process long, and if you lose you not only still have to pay your lawyer, but may also have to pay the other person's legal expenses. Therefore Canadians are not in general a litigious group. I do think that this ophthalmologist should be reported to their governing licensing group!! Hang in there my friend!!!

How scary that pink eye sounds and coughing up blood must have been so scary too. Hope everyone gets well soon. Trying to find a lawyer who even takes medical malpractice cases is not easy. If you do find one they will take the case on a contingency basis if they are sure in advance you will win. They can't tell you they are charging you an actual percentage rate, but the client always ends up paying about one third of the settlement amount in legal fees.

I'm sorry you have been having such a hard time......a couple of comments..... My kids had Pink Eye....as well as my grandaughter.....it's a common condition passed along in elementary school. In these situations, the infected eyes were pink and irritated, but general vision was not affected. A few days of antibiotic eye-drops that can be purchased over-the-counter was enough to clear it up. As for Bronchitis, it is not contagious......it is an infection of the Bronchial tubes. It is often triggered by a virus.....a cold or flu, but most of the people who catch the same virus, do not develop Bronchitis.......Hoping you feel better soon.

Thanks ET. My sister is having a really rough time with her pink eyes. In my case, the bronchitis has been a pain with lots of coughing. Hardest time has been at night. I don't have pink eyes. Elaine Shuel

Thanks again ET and yes I do know those things. My sister has viral, which she caught from our mother. She was told to use cold compresses since the eyelids swell. Elaine Shuel

The doctor at the hospital said bronchitis is contagious. Either way, coughing has been the main symptom and I hope it goes away soon. Elaine Shuel

Another fun day. I had some things crop up so I had to go to a walk-in clinic. I was told that from the emergency person who answered at the hospital that it's best to check it out. The doctor said I should continue on my antibiotics unless things get worse. He felt that what I thought was an allergic reaction most likely isn't from the antibiotics. I hope that no further updates will be coming and that the antibiotics can finish up without any incidents. Elaine Shuel

Oh Elaine I don't envy you with pink eye and bronchitis. Geesh sounds like all hell broke loose in the health department. I have a very good eye doctor but I go to an Optometrist. I have never been to an Ophthalmologist. My eye doctor would only refer me if there was something seriously wrong with my eyes. I hope you get it all sorted out.

Oh Elaine, so sorry to hear your unsettling news. Personally I've never had pink eye but my sister did (in Que). She had been seeing an ophthalmologist who recommended some drops and an eye cream. However, that was too strong for her so she remembered a neighbour's daughter of mine from a few years ago who used a cream called 'Calendula'; that seemed to work (it's all natural, made from a flower, apparently) & I've used it myself for other conditions. As for bronchitis, I wish you a speedy recovery!!

Thanks Roxy. Yes it has been a very strange time for my family. I am not sure what we'll do but the first thing is we all need to get our health back. Elaine Shuel
