I WENT TO THE DOCTOR TODAY I have had issues with my voice. It isn't as strong as it used to be. The ENT doctor checked and it seems my voice needs a rest. He ordered me to stay quiet, as in NO TALKING, for 10 days. He said I can pick when to start and given things that are coming up, I will most likely start late next week. Now this is quite the challenge for me. I talk on the phone with friends for hours. How will I do it? My sister thinks it's great that I won't say a word for 10 days.   Elaine Shuel |

I used to have bouts of laryngitis. This was really fun when I had little kids and a job that required a lot of talking. Interesting thing - when I no longer had kids at home and a job that required talking I stopped getting laryngitis. And we didn't even have text back then!! Spiritwoman ^i^

Elaine, am sorry for that, if needs be, you should abide by your doc's advice, could be that your vocal cord is somewhat tired. Try to not to talk for a while, giving it rest. Hope it will be better, I wish you all my best. Lisa

Get a good book shuel, I can stay silent for long periods of time.Being on my own all day causes thiis. However, I had a 2 hour conversation on the phone yesterday with my sister!! My voice is not as strong as it used to be at the moment. Enjoyed your blog.

Oh my!! Good luck with this!! Maybe take a book and sit outside away from your phone after letting all your chat friends know to only communicate via email, text, tweet, etc.

Sadly, that isn't what the doctor wants me to do. I am supposed to not say a word for 10 full days. I will start next Thursday and I don't know if I can do it. Thanks for your comment, Puzzles. Elaine Shuel

That could be a hard thing to do. You have t go into hibernation for 10 days and see no one. You best have a writing pad handy so you can everything down you want to say. Good luck on that Elaine.

OMG is right. I must have looked like I was in shock when he said it. He acted like he just said pop a pill. No antibiotics. I can't say a word for 10 whole days. Thanks Pat, I will need good luck to carry out his orders. Elaine Shuel

That was an informative response, RosesLady.  Thank you. In fact, I do take pills for acid reflux and the doctor wants me to take them every day until I see him again. The problem with my vocal cords was caused by my job. I know why it happened. I just never knew I would have to stay quiet for 10 whole days.Elaine Shuel

Thanks ranger. I don't think it is just about talking too much. It has to do with how loudly. In my job, let's just say that men didn't pay for me to be quiet. It took a toll on my vocal cords so now I have to heal them. Elaine Shuel

The doctor said whispering is just as bad as screaming, regarding the effect on your voice. I never would have guessed that. Elaine Shuel
