PRAYERS REQUESTED

I was debating about whether to share what's been going on with my mother. I then thought about what happened with my Aunt's friend and with Rae (Niles). My Aunt's friend is doing well, despite the odds against that happening. Rae's tumor turned out to be benign. So I decided that prayers could work and can't hurt.

My mother, some may remember, is 89 years old and had a benign brain tumour removed 7 years ago . She had to learn to walk again and did. It turns out she had a small benign tumor besides that one. It showed up on the MRI and the doctor wasn't concerned since it was so small. On followup MRIs for her brain tumour, nothing was said about it and honestly, we all forgot about it. On the followup MRI she had recently, things changed. The tumor quadrupled and she was sent to a radiation oncologist. It is benign but it's close to one eye. Left untreated, she would suffer vision problems that would lead to blindness. The recommendation was to have radiation. She will most likely have it in about 2 or 3 weeks (we'll know later this week), and it is supposed to take 3 weeks M-F to complete it.

I am asking for prayers for my mother if you would be so kind as to do that. Her name is Lottie. Thanks for all the prayers in advance. It will be very much appreciated.

So sorry to hear this news. I wish your mother much courage and strength to get through the scary radiation treatments, and hope she will be o.k.

Thanks very much, bijou. Yes, it is a scary thought and I wish I knew that having it was the right decision. I am starting to have second thoughts.

I will keep Lottie in my prayers, Elaine. Do you live close enough to your mother to be able to help look after her?

shuel2002 replies on 8/23/2015 7:26 pm:
Thanks MrsRichard. She's in the next bedroom. /:> She was planning to move out when we found out about her brain tumor. She can't live alone and she doesn't have to.

Elaine prayers and good thoughts going out to Lottie your mother. It isn't an easy thing to think about at her age.

Elaine, I know you're worried if you and your family are making the correct medical decision about the radiation. With all the money and the very best doctors in the country at Jimmy Carter's disposal, and he is the same age as your mother, they decided radiation of the brain tumors would be the best option for him. I don't know if this helps you Elaine, but wishing you much courage to get through this.

shuel2002 replies on 8/24/2015 11:32 am:
Bijou, that was very sweet of you to write that. Thank you very much. I did research and I am convinced that IF treatment should be done, radiation is best. The only thing that I wonder is if one should do anything at all. Without treatment, she would lose vision and chances are would end up blind in one eye. Nobody wants that to happen to her and that's why we are choosing radiation. I pray that's the right decision.

I'd like to thank each and every one of you for your well wishes and prayers. My mother's radiation will start on Sept 14 and will be done for 3 weeks (weekends there will be no radiation).
