THE FUN IN GETTING OLDER!

Isn't it fun getting older? No, not really. Before I turned 50, everyone said how wonderful it would be. When I reached the golden age, it actually depressed me. I have to admit that turning 40 wasn't great either, but right before my birthday, we found out my dad was ill, so my age was the least of my concerns.

I'm not looking forward to becoming 60 but it's part of life. For some reason, I never really pictured myself being in my 50s or above. I wonder if that's typical. That said, if someone retires and could travel and have fun, I could see advantages. For me, I never really feel free. There's always some work to do. I think that if one could feel a true sense of freedom, being older would be great. It's all about your state of mind. I think I'll have to work on that.

I don't mind birthdays. As I say, any day above ground is a good day! My next birthday I will be 75!

Remember what Janis Joplin said "freedom's just another words for nothing left to loose." if it weren't for the aches and pains the only complaint I would have would be loosing friends and family.

Elaine age is only a number. But I must say sometimes it depresses me to think the years are slipping by way too fast. That is why it is so important to look after our health and keep active. I thought 50 is old and now here I am at 72. Where did the years go. I am enjoying every day of my retirement and especially now since the nice weather has arrived. When I walk around the neighbourhood I so enjoy beauty of where I live. The ocean is steps away and if I feel like tanning my fanny I do not have far to go to do that.

Of course, that's true, Pat. What we thought was old as kids, isn't old. 40 was old to me at that time. Our perspectives change, as we change. Thanks for your comment.

I know what you mean, Roxy. My mom doesn't look anywhere near 89. I've had people thinking I'm in my 30s. It's all in the genes. Thanks for your comment.

I do envy you being so close to the ocean, Shartaun03. I find that water makes me feel at peace. Forget about how old you are and just enjoy that great environment. Thanks for your response.

I'm very happy to see your here, RosesLady. Yes, how one feels is what counts. When you don't feel well, it makes you feel older. Thanks so much for your comment.

Getting closer to 63 and I do my best to forget how old I am, but sometimes it doesn't help. My body likes to remind me by throwing in a few punches here and there.

The joke about the couple looking in the mirror reminds me of something my grandma did when she was 95. I went to her room to make sure she had some water to drink. I poured a glass for her and she took a couple sips, then she stretched her arm out and I thought she wanted me to take her glass. She got mad at me for trying to take it and told me it was for the woman in the other bed. She was looking at the sliding closet door mirror and the woman was her. Maybe it's good we don't recognize our self in the mirror when we get older, it might put us in shock!

That's a cute story, Rae. Thanks very much for sharing it.

You hit the nail on the head, Carolyn. I saw a video the other day. There was a woman who turned 102. When she went to blow out the candles on her birthday cake, her dentures fell out of her mouth. She could have gotten upset but instead she laughed. She was wonderful. I loved watching that video. Her attitude made her younger than many people I know. Thanks so much for your comment.

One of the best things about getting older is that I don't care what others think of me and my opinions.

I agree with you, Rentier. I think most of us begin caring less about what others think of us, as we age. Thanks for your comment.
